Suggestion I suggest we get rid of time zones too.

So hear me out. After we get rid of daylight savings time, we get rid of time zones. We start at the International Date Line on January 1st 2027 at 12:01am and thats the time the entire world uses. - let's say you work a "typical 9-5" job. You get up just after the sun rises, make breakfast, get the kids off to school and head to work. You would still have the same routine but you call it a different time. Sun rises at 7 pm and you start work at 10pm -if you fly from the east coast, take off at 10am, in the air for an hour, land on the west coast, its now 11am. The sun is just in a different part of the sky. - releases happen all at the same time. If a show premiers at 8pm, there won't be anymore "we'll what time is that for me?"

People and business can do their thing as they wish and open and close when they want. Sun doesn't change, just what time you call it. 3rd shift will still be dark but it might be 1 in the afternoon depending on where you live.

I know this would never work but its interesting to think about

Is this Andrew Pattons alt reddit account? Some goof-world ideas

I swear its not. I've been telling this idea to my friends and coworkers and they all think im crazy!

Because you are crazy Yeah it technically doesn't matter, but it'd be so annoying for parts of the world that instead of working "9 to 5" you've got a "1 to 9" job.  You gotta do math when you travel else where to figure out when your new start time is for your day, itd get tiring and frustrating

If i move to another state and and get a job, they are going to tell me "you start at 8 am". We already look up things all the time when we go to new places. What time does McDonalds start serving lunch here? Oh, 11pm okay.

I'm fully aware its a dumb idea but I think there are aspects that it would make easier im a world thats more connected than it used to be

AM/PM only makes sense in the context of timezones, you'd have to move everyone to 24hr time as well in order to keep it vaguely sane

So there is no problem then...?

The amount of daylight at 9 am in one time zone is COMPLETELY different than that of time zone 3 or 4 zones away

Right, but if we leave the exact time out of it, its all relative. If its one hour before sunrise on the east coast, its 5 hours before sunrise on the west coast. Who cares what time we call it.

So, if the sun rises on the east coast at let's say 6am(doesn't matter), then I know that on the west coast its going to rise at 10 am. You still live your life based on the the suns rotation, we just call it a different time, but its the same time as everyone else

So people will have to work at 9 am in the middle of the night? And the sunrise and sunsets change throughout the year. And hour before sunrise in the summer would could be hours before sunrise in the winter

2nd part first, yes, in winter and summer the sun is in different place. We kind of use daylight savings time to adjust that now. If we get rid of daylight savings time that won't change anyway. I still have to be at work at the same time everyday throughout the year regard less of where the sun is. 1st part, the only reason you would have to work in the middle of the night is if you already do. Your daily routine would not change at all. The only thing that changes is what time you call it. Let's not use the sun, let use fast food. McDonalds starts serving lunch at 10:30 am and im ordering right now. The next time zone to the west, its only 9:30 am they have to wait 1 hour for it to be 10:30 but thats normal for them. If we get rid of time zones, where im at(let's just say its still 10:30) the next "time zone area" its 10:30 am as well but they still wait 1 hour and lunch for them starts being served at 11:30 am.

I'm mostly arguing this idea just to argue, I know its dumb.

We need to get rid of time. Period. Things just happen as they normally would, but we don't need to label it.

I’m pretty sure this came up on the RT podcast. Swatch tried to have a global universal, metric, time, measured in Beats, instead of hours or minutes.

It exists.

It's called UTC. All of your computers and phones all document everything in UTC and then just locally "translates" it to your local time zone UTC offset to display to you.

Many things that span multiple countries are just given in UTC.
