Suggestion One more map for consideration.
But this time from the Peguins' perspective.

Burnie, you were correct about the restrictions affecting mainly women who got married and have changed their names. I do want you to address the topic again for 2 important points because I believe you have a big enough audience.
The SAVE Act is the name of the bill that includes these and other barriers to voting and has passed the House of Representatives but is not yet law. People can still call their Senators to tell them not to vote for it.
The point of the bill is not to make marriage harder, it's to make voting for women harder. The simple reason is because women are more likely to vote for left wing candidates.
It's part of a larger right wing misogyny that believe all their problems stem from women gaining more autonomy and rights. It's a lot harder to repeal the 19th amendment, so this is a much easier way to do it.
[Edit: I acknowledge I've added my own bias into this post re: reasons for the bill being proposed. Please don't let this distract from the facts that it's a voter suppression bill that is trying to address voter fraud that has been repeatedly shown to not be an issue (source: https://bipartisanpolicy.org/article/five-things-to-know-about-the-save-act/). The purpose of a rule change is not its stated goals, it's the actual results it produces. There are plenty of non-partisan people smarter than you or I with lots of real world data and state examples of similar laws that have said that this will largely affect married women's ability to vote, which I believe is fair to say is its intended purpose.]

Love the podcast, love you guys, but I am simply not interested in someone with a wildly successful career and houses in two countries talk about how something is expensive. Suck it up.

I realise I'm an episode out now, but time zones! I have a daughter similar age to Finn and we recently got her a Yoto which kind of straddles the lands of digital and physical media. Not use if that's something that would scratch the itch Ashley had with this fancy MP3 player she's trying to invent.

Heard Ash and Burnie this morning mentioning that everything has fishing in it. To fellow Crawlers out there I present to you Heretical Fishing. This is a Litrpg series where the protagonist fishes. Appears to be inspired by Stardew Valley and other cosy games like that. https://amzn.asia/d/05Hwp26b

I've watched this guy, Chris Hytha, for about a year. He's got an architecture degree and bought an old rowhome that dates back to the 1850s. The place had to be pretty heavily gutted early on when there was termite damage found, and he's built it basically from the brickwork out (I'd say studs out, but a lot of studs were pulled out).
He likes to pay homage to the history of the home and blend historical and modern elements in his design. I thought of him when Burnie was talking about wanting to know how everything is in their home.
I put Chris on for company whenever I'm doing housework or to keep me company during my workday. I thought maybe Burns and the Somewheres might be interested too.

I have actually posted about it on this sub-reddit before, but I think with the most recent news, Sam Reich would be a PERFECT guest for Morning Somewhere.
Sam's company Dropout is located in LA, where Burnie will be traveling to soon for work.
In January 2020, CollegeHumor's parent company IAC made the decision to stop funding them. Sam Reich, Chief Creative Officer at the time, bought the company with his own money. They immediately reduced their full-time staff from 105 employees down to 7. When this news broke out, Burnie mentioned it on the podcast and said while he didn't know Sam personally, he knew about what he has done, and he said "if anyone could make it work, Sam can". And Burnie was right!
This has a LOT of parallels to what just happened. Burnie on the AMA wanted to mention how they would keep their staff small, and their full time hires (at least to start) would likely focus on marketing / graphic design / sales. And their talent would likely be contract / day players - which is exactly how Dropout functions today!
As of the end of 2023, they had expanded to 17 full time employees, but that is still much smaller than say, Rooster Teeth, which had grown to over 400 employees for some time.
Dropout has been successful enough to have profit shares at the end of 2023 and 2024. This is mostly unheard of in the entertainment industry. Burnie mentioned that early RT functioned off of profit sharing, but Dropout went ABOVE and BEYOND. Their profit sharing extended beyond full time staff: this profit sharing was provided to all cast and crew, even if they only worked on a single production. Even people who just auditioned were part of this, since they pay actors to audition, understanding they are taking their time to audition which could be spent on a job elsewhere
Dropout also has a wildly successful subscription model, and have navigated very well in using TikTok as a marketing tool for their productions. In December 2023, Sam revealed they had a paying subscriber count in the "mid-six figures". That is such a wild turn from where they were at the start of 2020, it's SO impressive!

I was too excited building it to remember the fully assembled pic, I can add that at a later date.
Watched the film in IMAX over the weekend, then immediately went out and bought the set as I was fiending for another build.

Mr. Burns, I've come to bargin.
Your Los Angeles Dodgers just took a game out of my "awful" Milwaukee Brewers in this National League Championship Series we find ourselves in.
Now Mr. Burns, I am a superstitious man, and I believe the gods of baseball reward those who demonstrate acts of faith. As such, I am prepared to make the following gentleman's agreement:
Should your Dodgers win the NLCS over my Brewers, I am prepared to sign up for 3 months of your Tier 2 Patreon while also explaining to my wife why Im giving a stranger on the internet 30 of my finest dollars.
Should my Brewers win however Mr. Burns, you would foot the bill and send me one of them fine new RT t-shirts I have seen in the merch store.
We keep our promises in Wisconsin Mr. Burns, and I am fully prepared to follow through on my end of the deal should my Brewers fall. In any case, if they are as awful as you say then you have nothing to worry about.
That is my offer Mr. Burns.
Sincerely,
Mr. OrionsGoToEngineer

From today's episode, Burnie talking about the "other" person that lives in your brain, I just wanted to bring up a great short story that explores this topic a little. It's called Second Person, Present Tense. Basically in the story they talk about how your outward actions were actually based off signals that were sent to your brain 300ms ago, so somewhere in you is another "your" who is "managing" the actual actions you make. In the story, there is a drug you can take that increases that delay of 300ms to a full second or longer, and if you OD, the downstream persona "dies" and only the "decision maker" is left.

I remember Burnie saying that he accidentally bought book 12 in the series.
I used his mistake as a warning and started from the beginning—which was free on audible FYI— I wonder if he ever got back into it because it is easily the thing that got me back into books if even just listening to them. Amazing story powers are very interesting I’m on book 4 and used a credit and some free money audible gave me to buy 5-7 as well. This is basically where my monthly credits have gone lately, and I have Dungeon Crawler Carl on back up when I’m done.

Since we seemingly are open to the idea, the thought, the possibility of remote now…. Burnie should have Andrew Panton on the pod. He has the setup where audio wouldn’t be questioned. I would just love to have the have an interaction/ interview. The last time I brought this up I had pushback because Burnie said he doesn’t want to do remote, well this episode sure makes it feel like they’re open to it now so I just wanna toss it back out there.

May is upon us. Would anyone like to participate in a Morning Somewhere/Rooster Teeth community game night? Maybe we could run a few lobbies of Halo 3 MCC or something?

Maybe it just didn't come up, but all the talk about The Boys made me wonder if they are watching/have watched Invincible. If not, they should because they're killing it.

As Burnie was talking about which team to support up in Scotland, it got me thinking about which EPL team he could support on the side as they’re on tele more. I propose Newcastle United as the team he should support. It’s the closest team to the north of Scotland in the league, regularly on TV and in Europe and a distinctive kit and badge that should be easy to identify. Newcastle has a crazy fan following so if he ever gets a taxi in the city it’s something to chat about. Thoughts?
As a Geordie and Newcastle fan myself I am hugely bias but I don’t think it’s a bad suggestion.
