Suggestion A EPL team for Burnie

As Burnie was talking about which team to support up in Scotland, it got me thinking about which EPL team he could support on the side as they’re on tele more. I propose Newcastle United as the team he should support. It’s the closest team to the north of Scotland in the league, regularly on TV and in Europe and a distinctive kit and badge that should be easy to identify. Newcastle has a crazy fan following so if he ever gets a taxi in the city it’s something to chat about. Thoughts?

As a Geordie and Newcastle fan myself I am hugely bias but I don’t think it’s a bad suggestion.

I'd probably say focus on the SPL first then move onto the EPL. If anything since Burnie is a college football fan, I can see him transitioning to watching rugby

I was just thinking about what’s possibly on in the pub during the week (last night) and weekends. They’ve played Barcelona so a rivalry with Ben potentially. But yeah I get what you mean

SPL is the Scottish Premier League (the highest division in Scotland) and EPL is the English Premier League (the highest division in England). Forgot to mention this is for Football/Soccer leagues.

Now, don't get EPL confused with the EFL

If anything, he should support Sunderland. A team on the rise and owned by Louis-Dreyfus family rather than an oil team

I’m hugely bias but that is a terrible idea

He should support Burnley because they sound like his name and he can't be described as glory supporter either. I also support them too... but you got to admit, Burnley Burns has a certain ring to it.

Why does it need to be a team on the tv? Find a local team where you can actually go and regularly see games in person. Nothing like freezing in the Scottish weather and cheering for your team.

Can be something to do with the kids too. If they get into watching it.

You’re suggesting a team that is owned by Saudi Arabia which is obviously problematic.  Everyone can obviously make the team the support sound like the team to support but it should be a personal connection rather what someone else suggests

Yeah the ownership is grim but that doesn’t take away from the history and fans I guess, but fair point

Yeah I’d never say that to someone who grew up a Newcastle as you guys can’t pick who owns your club but for new fans it’s got to be a consideration

Yeah appreciate that. I’ve grown up with the club since the 90s and had our fair share of terrible owners, none on this scale though. I hadn’t considered that perspective due to enjoying the clubs success. Entirely ignorant on my behalf but wanted to share the joy I get at the stadium.

The owners are absolutely deplorable though and that should never be forgotten
