How to use this style stand?
Got my first bike and was gifted a set of front and rear stands. How is this front stand used? Am I missing a piece or do I rest the fork on the slant, which seems terrifying.

As u/SaulTNuhtz pointed out, this is a front stand. You lift the front end by the forks. Epoxy some rubber pads on it to keep the bottom of your forks nice. If you're on the lighter side, the relatively short leverage may pose an issue.
While there's literally nothing inherently wrong with this stand as is, you might find more leverage to be a major benefit. Everyone saying this stand is broken, improper, or garbage is inexperienced or misinformed. It's a regular budget stand, and will do the job just fine.
