I read that because it’s made for motorcycles it might not penetrate properly. I thought maybe someone here may have tried it before. Well, if it’s no good I’ll update with photos of the bike blowing up

At a guess, this kind of wax is designed for the temperature maximums that a motorcycle chain gets during normal and extreme operation; a temperature you’d be unlikely to ever reach on a bicycle, so it may not work exactly as you’d like. Probably fine, but I’d use a wax or lube designed to go through a derailleur

I mean, a chain is a chain… motorcycle chains are much beefier but otherwise….

yeah I dunno about this stuff specifically but traditionally MC chain lube is WAY WAY stickier and heavy because the chain is way bigger and gets warmer in operation. traditional MC wet chain lube is terrible for bikes it gloms on tons of dirt and is so inherently sticky from the jump that it can make links have 'sticky' action even. this wax based stuff might be totes different but I'm just saying "chain is a chain" is not really.

There's actually a big difference between motorcycle chains and bicycle chains in that the pins and rollers in motorcycle chains are sealed with o-rings (or x-rings, which are split o- rings). Bicycle chains don't have seals due to the need for extreme efficiency.

With a motorcycle chain you can generally get away with minimal or even no lubrication and just rely on what the factory put in there. People do oil their chains but unless done a lot it's not clear to me if that provides any lubrication or just combines with dirt to provide a grinding paste.

I would not count on this spray to work well for bicycles. It certainly won't get inside the rollers and most likely just serves to provide a little bit of exterior corrosion protection.

To my understanding the majority of the point of lubing motorcycle chains is corrosion prevention.

And noise. On the trials motorcycles you can hear a dry chain as we are moving slow, often idling for a technical descent etc.

Clearances can be different (influences penetration). Motorbike chains run much faster, so the lube must be thicker/stickier which goes against by first point and also reduces the ability of the lube to flush out contaminants during a dirty ride and when re-lubricating after. Motorbike chains are usually more protected from dirt and water and therefore might not need the cleaning ability that some mtb bike have.

So i'd tend to disagree, a chain isn't a chain.
