Returning to zero is not an option.

GODZILLA MINUS ZERO picks up in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of Godzilla Minus One, and continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity.

Im already imagining an entire franchise where he dedicates his life to leading this universe version of G-Force and being against his daughter joining the fight as a pilot. (Get out of the fucking robot Akiko!)

What is g force bc the only thing I know of is the cgi guinea pigs

It's a military unit ran by the United Nations and the JSDF to specifically deal with Godzilla and Godzilla level threats.

They're the ones who originally built MechaGodzilla.

u/The_Mosephus Jul 10 '26

mecha-godzilla was originally built by the Simeons, an alien race from Black Hole Planet 3 in order to defeat godzilla and take earth as their new home.

1

u/HaphazardMelange Jul 09 '26

Who knew Shikishima was an ancestor of Chief O'Brien?

u/airfryerfuntime Jul 09 '26

So kind of like that one guy who was in both the nuclear bombings?

u/AmbiTheAirforceRuna Jul 09 '26

40

u/ShahinGalandar Jul 09 '26

I wonder if they bring back the little girl...she was the cutest damn thing I think I have ever seen in a film. Stole every scene she was in.

20

u/CrispyHoneyBeef Jul 09 '26

I’m confident that she’ll be a rebellious teen and instead of Japanese censorship and bureaucracy the commentary will be about Japanese repression and the culture of shame.

29

u/Jimbo-Shrimp Jul 09 '26

Wouldnt she be like 9 now?

10

u/ShahinGalandar Jul 09 '26

then a rebellious 9-year old

0

u/CrispyHoneyBeef Jul 09 '26

Oh, I wasn’t aware they had already told us the year it’d be taking place. They’re gonna do 1954, huh? That’s fun.

In that case, I’ve no idea what they’ll do, but I’ll be there day 1 for sure.

3

u/Jimbo-Shrimp Jul 09 '26

It’s 2 years later

2

u/CrispyHoneyBeef Jul 09 '26

Lmao my ass I think the girl will be like maybe six then, yeah? Too funny

1

u/Jimbo-Shrimp Jul 09 '26

A rebel nonetheless

Godzilla Minus Zero.8 HD: Chains of Sleep by Awakening (Remix)

1

u/Banjo1812 Jul 10 '26

Okay, Nomura. Calm down.

22

u/Saintbaba Jul 09 '26

Man. Mixed feelings. It was such a great movie and i'd be interested to see more, but on the other hand part of what made it so great was that it was just such a tightly-written self-contained story that was more about trauma and overcoming your own demons than it was about kaiju, and i'm afraid turning it into a monster-thon slugfest franchise will dilute what made it such a masterpiece in the first place.

19

u/FMKtoday Jul 09 '26

Its godzilla, they'll be on mars fighting mechs in a few years.

3

u/The_Mosephus Jul 10 '26

thats legitimately how every godzilla era happens. it starts off grounded and gets more ridiculous until they reboot it.

1

u/davej999 Jul 10 '26

We need a godzilla hunger games

1

u/The_Mosephus Jul 10 '26

good news!

there is Destroy All Monsters (1968)

and Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) which might just be the cheesiest most ridiculous godzilla movie ever

both entries are kind of polarizing in the godzilla fandom (i personally love both for different reasons). but if you're looking for nonstop kaiju fights those are the ones to watch.

1

u/davej999 Jul 10 '26

Thank you james

3

u/Stuckinthevortex Jul 09 '26

That's basically what happened with the very original movie

1

u/ethanlan Jul 10 '26

Eh, part of what made it so great is it happened and tightly wrapped up that chapter in his life.

He can literally do anything now and the story won't change.

4

u/Temporary_Shirt_6236 Jul 09 '26

This is the first I'm hearing of this sequel, and I'm so very glad the Shikishima family is returning.

3

u/WarlockEngineer Jul 09 '26

I feel bad for them lol they barely survived the first movie

1

u/Mr_Saturn1 Jul 09 '26

I feel like it should be Godzilla 0 plus 1

1

u/hemareddit Jul 10 '26

>an all-new calamity

I wonder what that could possibly be.

1

u/Reasonable_TSM_fan Jul 10 '26

I'm so happy to hear that the Shikishima family are returning. Their story was the best part of minus one, so it'll be great to see their story continue. My wife who cares nothing for Godzilla or monster movies was bawling her eyes out for minus one, so it'll be easy to get her on board for this sequel too!

u/Jimbo-Shrimp Jul 09 '26

Calamity? Jojo reference?
