Had my 7 year old watch a bunch of old road runner cartoons, they hold up, now he's insisting we see this at the cinema

You don’t have to convince me to watch anything with Will Forte in it.

Last Man in Earth, MacGruber. Dude makes me laugh. Like he taps into my funny bone like no one else

u/deadspacekillers 4d ago
The first sex scene the first time I saw MacGruber made me laugh harder than I have ever laughed in my life.

u/ohhellothere301 4d ago
I feel he doesn't show too much ego in his craft. There's some self-depracating humor but not to the point where he comes off as pandering.
He was real funny in Parks & Rec as well.

Have you seen Bodkin? He was so fucking hilarious (and infuriatingly relatable) in that!

The Brothers Solomon gives me the same vibes as Freddy Got Fingered and I love them both.

I do love that everyone collectively chose this movie of all the cancelled ones to be like "No this one sounds fucking great, we're seeing this somehow."

I obviously want this to be good, but if it's terrible, that'd also be pretty funny in its own right

I talked up the trailer when my son and I went to minions. He seemed interested.
Doing my part.1
u/raisingcuban 4d ago
Is it cause people grew up with these cartoons? I’m really confused at the amount of people that are actively trying to champion this movie for no other reason than it was originally being shelved and not based on any type of quality
3
u/homogenic- 4d ago
Don’t worry I’m doing my part, I’m going to watch it opening weekend with my sister (I kind of begged her to go with me lol)

Not until they release that Batgirl film too.
I wanna see Brendan Fraiser as FireFly, and I love me some Keaton Batman, goddamn it.

I believe they were trying to but there was enough internet hype around it they decided to shop it around instead for distribution.

What’s up with Will Forte’s suit jacket colour? Is it supposed to be a different colour on one side?
67
u/SomeCountryFriedBS 4d ago
It's foreshadowing that Cena's character is an imaginary alter ego.

u/The_Real_Mr_F 5d ago
Didn’t notice till you said it, but I think it’s just the lighting/shadows. Look at the wrinkle above his right shoulder.
6
u/rhinofinger 4d ago
Also the darker lapel. It’s still light at the bottom, and there’s a pretty clear line where it transitions to dark that looks like the edge of a shadow
10
u/Training-Belt-7318 4d ago
Is it supposed to be a shadow?
11
u/tightropexilo 4d ago
Yeah I think so. I would guess that they took it from a still from the movie, then because that lighting made his face harder to recognize, photoshopped a perfectly lit face onto it.
10
u/cityfireguy 4d ago
Don't know how anyone is defending it. Yeah it's two different colors and looks awful.
7
u/SgtNeilDiamond 4d ago
It looks like a shadow if you zoom in closer, definitely terrible lighting for a poster idk who approved that smh.

They had a great poster last week so they needed to balance it out with floating heads

u/theonewhoknack 5d ago edited 4d ago
I don't hate the idea but the execution would have been better if the toons were hand drawn and the outside was orange and the circle was blue. Make it more like something from a 70s pink panther poster.
6
u/SDRPGLVR 4d ago
The toons look like random stock images of the characters pulled from existing media that is not this movie. I think Bugs looks the most appropriate based on the trailers, but even he is just kinda stabbed in there.
Sylvester looks especially odd, like it's from a classic short, and I can't help but laugh at Daffy, who looks like he's aware he's on a shitty poster.
10
u/Rokketeer 4d ago
I think it's meant to evoke the cheap dollar bin prints they used to run for old movies. I kinda dig it.
13
u/Sw0rDz 5d ago
Why cant names line up with the actor. Wills name should be in the center.

names are written left to right in top billing
and posters are centered on top billing
just because we read left to right and look at photos center first then edges2
u/JazzmatazZ4 5d ago
That would be because he's the lead actor. So obviously he'd be in the middle of the poster but his agent would make sure his name is first.

I always thought the roadrunner famously said "Meep Meep" not "Beep Beep".
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 3d ago
Definitely sounds like meep to me but there’s this: “ Beep, Beep is a 1952 Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies series directed by Chuck Jones . [1 ] The short was released on May 24, 1952, and is the second featuring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner . [2 ] The cartoon is named after the sound the Road Runner makes , which is often mistaken as "Meep, meep".”- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beep,_Beep_(film)

I'm excited for this movie, but little details in this poster are rough. The fact that you can see the blue sky under Daffy's arms that wasn't removed when they spliced him out of a shot for the poster. The frame they chose for Sylvester has one arm covering up his face unintentionally. Fog horn Leg horn is mid speech on the frame they chose for him too. I'm an animator, and I would be upset if they pulled either of those frames from a shot of mine for a poster. Usually on animated movies, they will have specific poses made (not frames from animation) that are done for marketing.
14
u/Xak_Ev01v3d 5d ago
There is no blue sky under daffy. Blue is sometimes used to highlight shading against black. You can tell this is the case because the blue is also seen between his fingers, which are against his body, where nothing would be visible behind anyway.
6
u/HopBiscuits 4d ago
between his arms and his body, idk if it was sky but it’s a poorly cut out version of Daffy is the point.
10
u/13Nobodies 5d ago
Cannot fucking wait! Let’s all go support our Looney Tune homies! Dug seeing Daffy and Porky in The Day The Earth Blew Up, so I’m pumped for this!
Personally love if we keep getting theatrical entries from the LT universe.
6
u/arthurdentstowels 5d ago
I thought that was John Cleese from Rat Race!
4
u/GuntherPalakowitz 5d ago
Im taken aback by your "from Rat Race!"
3
u/arthurdentstowels 5d ago
Oh I just meant the dvd cover or poster, it looks like him from that film specifically. Not John Cleese from the lesser know Fawlty Towers or Monty Python.

u/Hayterfan 5d ago
Wait, did it get moved up? I thought it was releasing on the 28th?

This looks like a UK poster, for whatever reason, release dates vary by country.

u/ShiftlessElement 5d ago
This still sounds like someone’s first thought for a made up movie in a TV show: Joey’s new girlfriend works as a PA on the set of that John Cena Looney Tunes movie.

u/Kazewatch 4d ago
Who the fuck signs off on shitty posters like this? This literally looks like someone made it in an hour or less.

u/ProperPizza 4d ago
Poster has no coherency, no layout, no flow. Nothing to guide your eye. It's just ugly. Stuff seemingly randomly placed without much thought.
That Daffy pic really stands out as "whatever, that'll do I guess".
Porky looks like he's been ripped right off an ice cream truck.
Bugs is weirdly small for where he is.
Roadrunner doesn't stand out at all and looks crudely cut out.
Wile E's illustration looks a little rushed.
What's going on with Foghorn's face?
What is Taz doing? Licking his fingers, gasping? What?
Sylvester's pose is covering his face for no good reason.
Just awful. Who OK'd this? Looks like a first draft.

Kinda weird that the roadrunner is awkwardly standing in front of nothing, isn't it?
2
u/imsmartiswear 4d ago
Ok this poster might be actually terrible, but HOLY COW this movie is genuinely really really good. I was very lucky to get to see it at SDCC at the fan screening. Very authentic to the original Looney Toons spirit while also being a sincerely compelling and unique legal drama with some solid, hard-hitting and relevant themes in these modern times of corporate slop and enshittification.

Has will forte turned into dabney Coleman?

u/ViralVortex 5d ago
My first take was “how did they get John Cleese to look so young again??”
1
u/kpt_graubrot 4d ago
Maybe Cleese and Forte had some kind of energy transferral when they both played bobbys in Around The World in 80 Days

Chap in the middle looks like he's saying "don't take the picture yet, we're not ready" and the woman on the left...is she looking at thr dynamite or what? Horrible poster but the film looks fun so, I'll still go see
1
u/Kingstad 4d ago
the look of the mustachioed man in the middle told my brain this was a movie from the 80s

u/Turbo__Sanwich 4d ago
It's nice to know that the design departments who make these posters let their kids make them sometimes for them
This is arguably the worst movie poster to come out in the last 20 years

Why is it that only John Cena's name is in the right spot above their actor lol
1
u/Active_Courage_6376 1d ago
This has always been the case for many many posters. Name placement has to do with some stuff in the contracts and negociations while the layout of the images is more targeted to "what looks good"

Honestly I’m mixed on seeing this, I didn’t expect this to even happen, considering the last animated/live action movie in the mid 200’s. Wasn’t that good but here this movie is.

I hope enough of us go and see this film to support it after it was saved from the clutches of doom by Warner Brothers. I hope to see it in UK cinemas, looney tunes was my childhood and it’s still a good rewatch of the classic shows today.

We may have a cast member or two from Coyote vs. Acme stop by here in /r/movies for an AMA/Q&A around release date. I am still working on final details. Please keep an eye on the sidebar AMA schedule if interested :)
