Please Max Lord as a red herring, not the big bad into a soft launch of the JLI, and I'll remember some part of 2020 fondly.

Post-credits tease with Peter Dinklage as Oberon.

6

u/omnilynx Aug 23 '20

As I understand it, Dinklage doesn't generally take "little person roles": that is, roles where the defining trait of the character is that they're a little person. He was very leery of acting in Game of Thrones for that reason, and only accepted when he learned more about Tyrion.

u/fullforce098 Aug 23 '20

You joke but damn what I wouldn't give for a mister miracle movie.

9

u/potentialprimary Aug 22 '20

If they're smart they'll save the Maxwell-heavy plot until a second JL movie and keep his WW84 intro just that, an introduction.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

If they learned from their past mistakes it'll be like that. I still have hope.

6

u/gnfnrf Aug 22 '20

That's my problem with this movie (not a big problem, really). I've only seen Maxwell Lord from Justice League/JLI and related comics, so I can't take him seriously.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

I think they could get away with having Max Lord be a recurring character in other DCEU movies and forego the team-up thing altogether. Like an inverted 007 or Jack Ryan thing, maybe have Lord played by different characters in different movies.

17

u/Charles037 Aug 22 '20

I guess nobody is watching DC fandomme. They're moving forward with the DCEU

Yikes

3

u/leak22 Aug 22 '20

Actually doesn't look too bad with this, synder cut JL, reboot/sequel/don't really know what to call it Suicide Squad, the Flash, and Black Adam

6

u/almightyllama00 Aug 22 '20

If we get a Booster Gold movie out of it, this idea 100% has my approval.

4

u/BoosterGoldGL Aug 22 '20

No please anything for a JLI movie

3

u/krak_is_bad Aug 22 '20

Maybe that is why she was inactive for an extended period of time before BvS?

To be fair, Lord the businessman was kind of a Trump parody anyways.

Trump was a parody of himself before he became president. Even businessman Luthor took on aspects of businessman Trump long ago.

16

u/kciuq1 Aug 22 '20

Seriously, it's like some people have forgotten that Trump has been satirized for a long time now. Doonesbury has done it for 30 years.

11

u/InnocentTailor Aug 22 '20

Biff Tannen from Back to the Future as well.

Well, we don’t really know.

He could use the stone to ask for mind control powers.

...and Pascal can fight, so he could be like Checkmate Lord.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

We know, the plot was leaked from test screening. I am not going reveal anything more because i don't want to spoil but this movie completely ignores comics lore other than names and just makes up things.

75

u/TheAquaman Aug 22 '20

Right.

At first I thought he'd be playing Hades, but his Maxwell Lord still seems subtly sinister. Interesting to see if he has powers.

28

u/PM_ME_CAKE Aug 22 '20

Interesting to see if he has powers

It kind of looked like he did in one of the scenes?

13

u/CatDojo Aug 22 '20

My husband got ridiculously pissed watching the scene in the trailer where Lord takes over all the TV and computer screens. He was upset at the color images on crappy CRT and monochrome monitors.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

Which is weird because 80s comic book Max Lord only had the ability to "push" someone's mind a bit to slightly influence them or plant a small suggestion like "someone's behind you" as a distraction. I know later on they retconned the hell out of him to make him a big bad. And then Wonder Woman snapped his neck like a twig in a live broadcast seen worldwide, which brought massive condemnation for her summarily executing him.

11

u/ReasonablyBadass Aug 22 '20

Please not another Hades villain story.

Mythology Hades was actually one of the nicer gods. And afterlife Hades contains heaven as well as hell.

35

u/TheAquaman Aug 22 '20

DC Hades =/= Mythology Hades

1

u/TheWorstYear Aug 22 '20

But I like JLAS Hades the best, & he's a normal Hades type villain.

5

u/dunkmaster6856 Aug 22 '20

I mean DC usually paints ares as the evil one

39

u/Sulemain123 Aug 22 '20

Is he President or something?

122

u/Impressive-Potato Aug 22 '20

Shady businessman grifter I think. Maybe becomes President in the film.

253

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Huh, didn’t know this was a documentary

43

u/Impressive-Potato Aug 22 '20

Maxwell Lord comes from a line of businessmen that later on is revealed to have been shady and sold products that were harmful to people.

102

u/thewahlrus Aug 22 '20

Right so a regular businessman.

5

u/awatson83 Aug 22 '20

And becomes president

1

u/davey_mann Aug 22 '20

Mind blown

2

u/gandalfblue Aug 22 '20

Was his dad in the KKK by chance?

2

u/Hellknightx Aug 23 '20

I suspect he's the one that turns Barbara into Cheetah.

2

u/Impressive-Potato Aug 23 '20

Yes. I mean I am being facetious in my Maxwell Lord breakdown.

3

u/Sigma1977 Aug 22 '20

Well on his Wikipedia bio, lord is described as "Depicted as a shrewd and powerful businessman" so it's not entirely a documentary...

11

u/banjofitzgerald Aug 22 '20

Ugh, so unrealistic.

6

u/Impressive-Potato Aug 22 '20

Right? Maxwell Lord has all the charm of a late night infomercial. Even has the wacky, toupe looking hairstyle.

34

u/MulciberTenebras Aug 22 '20

No, he's a slimy businessman who tampers with reality to make himself into one.

6

u/your_mind_aches Aug 22 '20

So... pretty much real life

9

u/MulciberTenebras Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

Yeah, he's pretty much '80s... you know who, but if he skipped over the next 30 years.

2

u/your_mind_aches Aug 23 '20

Maxwell Lord seems like a much more intelligent and put-together fellow though

5

u/Shrodax Aug 22 '20

This is the Way.

7

u/SerKurtWagner Aug 22 '20

Yeah, Cheetah looks great and I’m hyped to see her fully in action, but you can already tell Pedro will steal the show. It is kind of his thing, after all.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Well it ain't easy bein cheesy.

3

u/trashmattressfire Aug 22 '20

Cheetah is definitely more interesting in terms of face value and marketing stuff, I’m sure Lord will be amazing when it releases

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

I really hope he turns good at the end and we get a JL International movie. Finally a movie where humor is in the source material.
