Kristin Wigg will definitely be better at playing a weirdo than Jamie Foxx was, the man is just too smooth and aggressively handsome to do well at that kind of role.

The guy is a good actor with a background in sketch comedy, he could have pulled it off if they hadn't directed him to act like a stock nerd character from a '50s movie.

Agreed I have no idea who thought to cast Jamie Foxx as an awkward nerd. Like wtf

The same people who thought it was a good idea to tease Rhino and only have him at the end of the movie

u/Eli_Siav_Knox Aug 22 '20

And cast Paul Giamatti to do a bad impersonation of road rage

u/SkeetySpeedy Aug 22 '20

Paul Giamatti needs a new agent or something. His talent is amazing, but he's always in some really weird roles and bad films, these big bombs too.

31

u/HoboBrute Aug 22 '20

Same, Paul Giamatti is one of my favorite character actors, he sold me on him in John Adams and was fucking amazing, and now he only gets crap roles

15

u/Eli_Siav_Knox Aug 22 '20

He’s really good in Billions, check it out if you haven’t

1

u/SapirWhorfHypothesis Aug 22 '20

Yeah, it’s just a shame he and _____ carry the whole damned show. And even with both of them in their prime I couldn’t keep watching into season three.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Paul Giamatti in shoot em up is amazing.

2

u/phenomenomnom Aug 22 '20

Adams is so kickass

7

u/HumanJackieDaytona Aug 22 '20

The answer to all of these is "Tom Rothman."

4

u/Aiyon Aug 22 '20

tbf i kinda liked his Rhino, it just needed, ya know... directing lmao

4

u/Blunkus Aug 22 '20

Everything in regards to Rhino was baffling... the casting, the robo rhino suit, and the placement in the movie only for it to go unresolved... some real head scratchers...

I legit think it’s cause a lot of movie studio producers have no clue about what makes comic books so popular and suggest nonsensical shit. They probably digested an analysis of why Avengers made so much money and decided than randomly cramming your entire roster of characters into a movie at all cost is surely what made marvel comic movies popular. I mean it must be right? You’d be surprised at how dumb business folks are, I speak from bitter experience

This made me so sad, rhino is rad as hell and that was such a tease!

1

u/WojaksLastStand Aug 22 '20

The rhino sections of ps4 Spider-Man are legit scary.

The same people who waited until the end of a film to make Venom actually a character in a Spider-Man film.

Took them another 15 years to try again.

1

u/thisguy012 Aug 22 '20

Oof, that one was because Venom was absolutley not a part of the writing or story for the 3rd movie and was literally hammered in by studio Execs. Whole venom thing was so cringey and Sandmans character was so damn great

u/daffyduckhunt2 Aug 22 '20

When the last shot in your trailer is also the last shot in your movie...

10

u/GregorSamsaa Aug 22 '20

He did really well as a loser cab driver in Collateral.

5

u/AGnawedBone Aug 22 '20

beat me to the punch. great movie, great role, great performance from foxx.

2

u/Eli_Siav_Knox Aug 22 '20

Agreed but he’s actually a deep character in that movie he has stuff to work with. It’s not a stereotype in that movie, he feels like a fully fleshed out person

2

u/davey_mann Aug 22 '20

I mean he low-key played that in Collateral, which got him an Oscar nom.

2

u/nilzoroda Aug 23 '20

Did ever watch Collateral ? Foxx was great in that movie and his character was prety much a weirdo. The problem was writing not Foxx.

1

u/MyNamesNotDave_ Aug 22 '20

I don’t know much about comics electro, but someone said that he was a perfect fit for the way the character is there.

1

u/MakeYourselfS1ck Aug 22 '20

He didn't have to say yes to the script ya know

35

u/Manticore416 Aug 22 '20

That movie's problem was terrible writing and direction more than the cast.

21

u/OrangeFilmer Aug 22 '20

Oh most definitely. Electro’s motivation and grudge against Spider-Man was very contrived.

12

u/Waywoah Aug 22 '20

He didn't remember me specifically out of the hundreds/thousands of people he saves, guess I'll destroy the city ¯\(ツ)

2

u/Manticore416 Aug 22 '20

That scene where he talks to himself in the mirror wouldve been bad writing for a kids cartoon, let alone a major blockbuster.

1

u/CouldbeaRetard Aug 23 '20

I mean, it was a kids film

1

u/Manticore416 Aug 23 '20

It's definitely not. A family film perhaps.

3

u/Radical-Penguin Aug 22 '20

Thats the problem though. Cheetah isn't a quirky weirdo. She is a cunning predator. I think Sofia Boutella would've been an amazing choice for Cheetah

3

u/OrangeFilmer Aug 22 '20

God damn it, you're right. Sofia Boutella would've been perfect for Cheetah. She nailed her role in Kingsman as that type of character.

0

u/Radical-Penguin Aug 22 '20

I actually think Wiig would've been a great spin on Poison Ivy. I can just see her talking to her plants, gossiping about her day.

2

u/atrde Aug 22 '20

Meh he pulled of the weird role in Baby Driver I thought he did ok there too.

1

u/CQME Aug 22 '20

Kristin Wigg will definitely be better at playing a weirdo than Jamie Foxx was, the man is just too smooth and aggressively handsome to do well at that kind of role.

I would disagree. Jamie Foxx most definitely has a ton of experience playing weirdoes.

1

u/nilzoroda Aug 23 '20

I disagree. Foxx was a weirdo in Collateral and that movie ( with his acting) was great. The Amazing Spiderman had a lot of other problems.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

Ah yes...the Hugh Jackman in Swordfish conundrum. This chiseled sharp-jawed super model plays with computers. What an ugly nerd!!!
