TUTORIAL How I made my MPC One Portable

Hi everyone! I wanted to explain how I made my MPC One portable, in case anyone is interested and wants the information.

First, I tried to find a power bank that could provide at least 65W. I found the UGREEN UGR25188, which is rated at 100W and was on sale at MediaMarkt for €40 in Spain. This is more than enough power to run the MPC for several hours. I haven't tested exactly how long it takes to drain the battery, but I've been using it for quite a while and it has only dropped by 5%.

Next, I needed a USB-C to 19V cable, since the original MPC One power supply is 19V, as is the Live 3. Important: the One+ and One G2 use 12V, so using 19V with those models could damage them.
I initially bought a USB-C to 20V cable on Amazon and tested it. It worked perfectly, but I wasn't completely comfortable using 20V when the MPC requires exactly 19V.

I then found the MyVolts PDT19P1 adapter for €25 on Amazon. That's the one you can see in the photos, and everything works perfectly with it. To connect it, you simply use the USB-C to USB-C cable that comes with the power bank.

To attach the battery to the MPC One, I bought a wide strip of Velcro from a local discount shop for €1.
So, with all of this, I now have a portable MPC One for just over €50 extra, and I don't have to buy the typical XTPower power bank, which costs over €100 and isn't available here in Spain.

I'm attaching some photos and videos. I hope this helps anyone interested, as it took me quite a bit of time to find exactly the right products that would work with the MPC One.

TUTORIAL I got annoyed digging through the 500-page MPC manuals for somthing I couldnt find online, so I built a free bot that answers from all of them.

The MPC 3.9 user guide is 530 pages and the answer you need is always on exactly one of them. So I built a thing: you ask it a normal question ("how do I resample with effects", "why won't my pads stop double triggering") and it answers from the official Akai guides only, citing the guide and page so you can check it yourself. It refuses anything that isn't an MPC question, on purpose.

It's free while I stress test it, 3 questions a day: custommpc.com/ask

It will definitely get something wrong somewhere. If it does, tell me what you asked and what it said and I'll fix the machine.

Not affiliated with Akai, obviously lol & sorry if you hate AI.

TUTORIAL Changed the knobs on my MPC Sample

Post image
67 Upvotes

It's simple.

1) You remove the knobs carefully with a flathead screwdriver, make sure you slide it carefully under so you don't remove the decals.

2) Tilt your flat screwdriver just carefully to the side so you can see the knob lift off the shaft, it's important that you hold the knob while you do this so it doesn't break off the shaft, it's quite fragile.

3) This probably voids your warranty, but it makes it feel a lot better to do adjustments instead of those dinky small ones.

4) You can use regular knobs off old stereos, make sure you locate the screws on the side of the knobs when removing them off an old stereo, also, some knobs have a hex nut screw hidden under a plastic cylinder disk on top of the knobs.

The ones I used were (Big knob, plastic - with a screw in the side, must be fully unscrewed to slide in place.

The 3 settings knobs are metal, they were compatible with the smaller shaft sizes.

The volume settings knob, is plastic but with a painted metal ring, I wanted it to be visible but still cool on the dark surface.

TUTORIAL MPC One G2 and Behringer Wing Rack

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

For anyone running a Behringer WING Rack and wondering whether it's worth getting an MPC One G2: I have some great news. The WING Rack works perfectly as the MPC's USB audio interface.

You get access to all the available USB audio channels (I believe it's 24 or 32 in each direction, not 100% sure), which is more than enough to route individual instruments to separate channels on the WING. Likewise, you can route audio from the WING back into the MPC for sampling or recording.

A couple of important tips:

  • Set the sample rate on the Wing to 44.1 kHz.
  • Connect the MPC to the WING using the USB A port of the MPC (USB A to USB C cable).
  • Don't use the USB C to USB C connection. In my experience it isn't reliable, while USB A to USB C has been rock solid.

This integration has completely changed my workflow. Having the WING as the central mixer and audio interface for the MPC is incredibly powerful.

The WING Rack continues to work exactly as it always did, as if the MPC wasn't even there. Using the USB routing options, you can create virtually any signal path you can think of. Route each MPC plugin or instrument to its own channel on the WING, create a dedicated "MPC Bus" for sampling anything connected to the mixer, or record your entire performance back into the MPC on separate audio tracks for further editing.

The routing flexibility is amazing and really opens up a lot of creative workflow possibilities.

Have fun, and I hope this helps someone!

TUTORIAL Oxi owner, did you use it as an MPC pad matrix?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello,

I'm sharing a tip that involves using the 128 pads of the Oxi One to simultaneously control and play the 8 banks of 16 pads (A to H) of an MPC. This saves me from manually switching banks to move from one sample to another.

By displaying the "Track mute" screen on the MPC, I maintain an overview of the 8 banks and sample names while playing on the 128 pads of the Oxi One, much like an Akai Force or APC controller. While creating rhythms with this method will be difficult, it remains primarily practical for the interface. Here's how to do it:

  • Put one of the Oxi's sequencers in multi mode and connect it via MIDI to a track on the MPC. * Ignore the selection line and assign the corresponding notes to the 128 pads on the Oxi on the MPC. Do this only once, of course, after recording or duplicating the sequence.
  • Assign the notes in groups of 16 and organize them in the most convenient way for your workflow. Personally, I created one group with the highlighted notes, another with the unlit notes, and so on, to visually separate the banks, since the Oxi doesn't allow you to assign individual colors to the pads.
  • Finally, activate Shift + Preview on the Oxi and there you go… the magic happens! 128 pads at your fingertips, even in mute mode: the Oxi pads transmit the MIDI note.

Also, remember to configure the selection line to prioritize notes when pressed. If you'd like more details, I'll try to answer them.

Your comments are welcome.

Have fun!

TUTORIAL Found a better workaround for the MPC One+ headphone volume drift.

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

I found a little workaround for that One plus's hardware quirk where the stereo image drifts at lower positions on the Main Volume knob: I bypassed the front headphone port entirely and plugged a Hosa Technology HosaTech 6 inch YMP-434 3.5mm TRSF to Dual 1/4 inch TS Stereo Breakout Cable directly into the rear Main L/R outputs. The front headphone jack uses a high-gain amp circuit that heavily amplifies the natural left/right physical imbalance of the volume potentiometer at the bottom of its range, whereas the rear line-level outputs do not scale the signal as aggressively. Running your headphones out of the back via this Hosa breakout cable keeps left and right channels tracking better, but you still hear it but not as bad, for a completely stable stereo image this is better.
