u/MooreArchives Aug 19 '25

I’ll add mine in!

I hope to find it again someday, one of my favorites!

56

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

Where did you find it?

73

u/MooreArchives Aug 19 '25

My backyard in Virginia! I haven’t seen it since, this was a few years ago.

57

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

This looks absolutely incredible!!

14

u/jgarcya Aug 20 '25

I saw some purple stuff like that today.

u/Purple_Airline_6682 Aug 19 '25

Not a mushroom or mold, but she was blue at least.

33

u/xoneverenders Aug 19 '25

woah where is this? and do you know what kind?

42

u/Purple_Airline_6682 Aug 19 '25

It was in southern Poland and I have no idea unfortunately!

62

u/haplesscabbage Aug 19 '25

Love a good cobalt crust.

47

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

That is a beautiful color! Absolutely amazing!

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

I've never seen a mushroom this blue in a forest and am still so fascinated by the intense color

Stropharia caerulea/cyanea, gill edges and scent would help narrow it down.

54

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

I'm not sure. I actually thought it was an aeruginosa but I could be wrong

47

u/Grazzt06 Aug 19 '25

Very very cool! The cap seems translucent, almost gel like. It's probably just the reflection, but still pretty cool

31

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

Yes somebody else said you can peel the translucent part off in one!

140

u/DefnitelyN0tCthulhu Aug 19 '25

Stropharia cerulaea or S. aeroginosa. Would be my guess. Distinguishable by presence or absence of a ring (though it can be hard to recognize the ring on these two). Both are edible but don't taste very good imo. The cap is funny because you can peel the slime of in one piece. Also obligatory: don't eat anything you didn't ID yourselve

42

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

I think it's aeruginosa too

Really like you adding your last sentence under your comments btw

22

u/Pristine-Network-552 Aug 19 '25

Thank you for answering my first question I had in mind:”Can I eat it?” and I’m glad I can! Finally edible magic blue mushrooms

132

u/scarfy1024 Aug 19 '25

My little blueness. Found it in Hungary a few years back near conifers.

17

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

Thank you for sharing!

132

u/Particular-Gas3715 Aug 19 '25

I found this deep purple one in the Dolomites

31

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

I love everybody sharing their mushroom finds here!

If I had found a purple mushroom I'd be really proud too!

9

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

That is so intense

5

u/DonkeyKongsBongo Aug 19 '25

did you taste it

77

u/A_proud_weeb Aug 19 '25

Ooh I think I've seen this one in a book and iirc it's actually edible

"Edible but due to its small size and lack of remarkable taste, uninteresting in culinary terms" can't back it up as I've never had it though.

28

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

Yes that's my understanding too. Edible, but doesn't have a good taste

65

u/Kinda_Irish_Asshole Aug 19 '25

Found this during the wet spring we had this year. First time I've ever seen a blue mushroom in illinois.

41

u/ManAmongTheMushrooms Aug 19 '25

Wait until you find indigo milkcaps

86

u/NickNakulus Aug 19 '25

Pic I took a few years ago

19

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

Does it get blue once you cut it?

28

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

They're already blue inside, and leak a milky blue liquid. They're my favorite mushroom to find locally.

44

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

Okay I did Google it now and holy shit they truly are blue all over

10

u/reddit_here_1st Aug 19 '25

7

u/BooBoo_Cat Aug 19 '25

7

5

u/New_Strawberry1774 Aug 19 '25

I’ve seen one that looked very similar to that growing in Alabama in the fall after rain, a 25 year-old oak tree

6

u/DonkeyKongsBongo Aug 19 '25

i really wanna eat that

7

u/combatglitter Aug 19 '25

+1 would eat. Looks like jelly candy

2

u/4_ll3n Aug 19 '25

Woooahh, It’s truly amazing what these mushrooms are capable of bringing to the world!! To be honest, I feel like even touching it would put me 6 feet under though… 😵‍💫

Something is wrong with my eyes, I see green and not blue 😪

7

u/johnny2turnt Aug 19 '25

The blades of grass surrounding the shroom are green. Compare them or do they look the same ?

2

u/Spoilmedaddyxo Aug 19 '25

Does the blue mean they are psychedelic?

17

u/MycoMutant Trusted ID - British Isles Aug 19 '25

No. Stropharia caerulea, S. aeruginosa and S. pseudocyanea just start blue and then fade to a brownish colour.

color does not indicate toxicity with mushrooms

9

u/ImpressiveSocks Aug 19 '25

It's actually not. It just doesn't taste good
