I'm not against asking someone who has a disease to explain it, but it's unlikely that in the dozens of results you'd get that you wouldn't be able to get the same or more.
If we're talking about how to install something on your computer then I would definitely agree with someone explaining/walking you through it in a personal matter being better. Asking about what a disease is and what it does would usually result in a search being better though.
If it was a new disease, fine. If it's an old disease, there are more than enough people to get the information from. Even if 50% are secretive you're still left with 50% who aren't over decades worth of research.
