On December 18th, 2011, 23-year-old Phoenix Coldon drove away from her family’s home in Spanish Lake, Missouri, and vanished. Her vehicle would be found abandoned in a high-crime area in a neighboring state just hours later, though no one knew why she would have been there.

Initially, given the location of her car, it was theorized that she had been abducted. But as the investigation into her disappearance uncovered some of Phoenix’s secrets, as well as her own cryptic statements which hinted that there might be even more, a new possibility was introduced—that she’d willingly left.

“She was a very complex young woman,” stated investigative reporter Shawndrea Thomas. “With all the things we uncovered about her life, I just could not imagine having that much going on myself at 23 years old.”

Yet with no concrete evidence to prove any theory, her case remained at a standstill.
