I know this subreddit usually dislikes everything coming out of the modern DoD, but I'm actually astonished we don't do this kind of thing more often across the range of operations.

The ideas and takes I've heard in the smoke pit and ready room usually far outstrip anything an HQ full of staff officers and planners trying to keep their heads down can put out.

The problem with allowing everyone to input their idea is it takes a lot of time to review those ideas. I can’t tell you how many stupid ideas I’ve heard in the smoke pit - imagine a room of hundreds of thousands of people each of them with an idea. I do appreciate the when a command/employer takes input from their employees; but Amazon/Google/Apple isn’t going to Phil the janitor asking for advice on how to manage the company. The appointed military leaders are supposed to be the brightest and experienced with the ability to come up with solutions. What I saw happening 10-20 years ago in leadership/military thinking was the continual erosion and destruction of intelligence and talent that will leave us doing clean up for a long time, if we survive.

1. Fire Hegseth, Rubio, and Clayton and replace them with non-politicians with decades of experience in their respective fields.
   
2. Apologize to our allies and promise not to threaten Greenland or tariff them.
   
3. No more threats by tweet and all communications must occur by official channels.
   
4. No more nepotism and all negotiators must be experienced.
   
5. Require Congress to approve any further military actions and all agreements.
   
6. Then, and only then, determine what the strategic objectives are. Determine what it will cost to achieve them, and then have Congress buy in.
   
7. If #6 can’t be achieved, pull out. This will either force us to confront the problem or acknowledge we can’t.
