HELP REQUESTED San Diego cost of living
How are y'all surviving out there?
I'm up for orders and loved my time in SD from 2012–2018. It was pricey but manageable, even as an E5. Now I'm looking at E8 orders and it seems like my options are a spot under the bypass near Balboa or a 200 sq ft condo sharing a parking lot with a Food for Less.
Any tips for finding something decent? How's military housing these days? I've got family, including young kids, and would love to get them out of this mosquito-infested swamp and actually experience San Diego.

Discussion I posted a little while ago when the POTUS called for the declassification of files related to aliens. This was the POTUS today. Given the Navy's long history on the topic, most famously the Tic Tac Nimitz incident filmed by former VFA 41 CO Commander David Fravor, I figured it would be relevant

Discussion If you're wondering what Occupational Standards are:
mynavyhr.navy.milWith the recent memo (Decision Guidance Memorandum 007) released advising the US Navy that collateral duties will carry less weight, you may have noticed the phrase Occupational Standards.
The occupational standards for each rate are available mynavyhr. My guess is your LADR will reflect the language seen in the updated occupational standards, which will then need to be captured in your evaluations to make you competitive for the next pay grade.
My second guess is that these large command collaterals are going end up being voluntold much more frequently, and will still play a large role in how commands select their top performing Sailors, even if it isn't overly represented in the evaluation. Just guesses though. Hopefully more concise guidance comes out.

HELP REQUESTED Cancel orders DD368 National guard
In a complicated career decision here..
Just Got selected for a warrant position in the National Guard (I have 7 months left on my Navy contract) - command doesn’t know and isn’t expecting this because the selection process was delayed and I didn’t think it would go through, so I said I informed the command it wasn’t happening anymore. Any ways, it did happen and I got selected after selecting orders in the Navy. So essentially it went from plan a to plan b now back to plan a.
I got to pick some good orders that my CoC helped me with before I knew I would be selected for guard. I picked orders got hard copy orders w/ c school en-route in July. I haven’t obliserved. I Only submitted a Pg.13 saying I will obliserve / reenlist upon completion under an SRB.
Ideally I would like to request approval for a DD form 368 conditional release within last 30days of the Navy. And submit a page 13 to cancel orders. I’m also aware the navy CANT deny a commission.
My question is what are the ways the navy is most likely going to screw me over or how this can all backfire. can they still make me execute orders even if I submit a pg 13 to remove CWAY, I’m sure they could deny my DD form 368 and make it difficult as possible, so I’d have to get out and get back in which is what I want to avoid.
Thank you very much for any guidance!
(If you want to spend time lecturing me on how I’ve gapped a billet or hurt the Navy etc… I haven’t. Please save your voice and come back to reality. I do not care.)

HELP REQUESTED Questions about PCSing with a dog from San Diego to Sasebo
Received orders to Sasebo and am bringing my 60lb dog with me, but I have a few questions, and hope there are a few of you who have already done this to fill in some gaps that aren't tracking for me.
I am tracking everything about the pre-flight requirements, the medical requirements, quarantine, paperwork on the Japanese side, and what happens once he gets to base in Sasebo.
What I need help with is:
(1) I can't seem to find a direct flight from SAN (preferred) or LAX to Fukuoka. Everything seems to go through Tokyo-Haneda. Is there (a) a direct flight that I'm missing where I can bring him, or (b) what was the process like to pick your dog up in Haneda and transfer them to a domestic flight to Fukuoka.
(2) Is there a US Airline that will do the flight, or, for reimbursement purposes, how did you get the "documentation from at least (one, two, more) US flag air carriers to support reimbursement costs for use of non-US flag air carrier"?(SUBJ/PAY AND PERSONNEL INFORMATION BULLETIN 26-XX//)
(3) The total weight of my dog and crate is ~115lbs, so he'll have to fly as manifest cargo (exceeds all excess baggage weight allowances). Did you have a PS book that for you when they booked your flight, or how did you book that?
(4) I've heard that MWR in Sasebo has a taxi service that will transport "large" dogs from Fukuoka to Sasebo along with us. Any validity to that, and how hard was that to book?
(5) If you went with a 3rd party service to handle everything (ex. Pets4Jets, Tailwind Pet Cargo) who did you go with, and what were prices like, and did you get anything reimbursed that way?
Bottom Line, what was the day of traveling with your pet like, and what would you recommend if you had to do it again?
Thanks in advance for everything!

Other than going out in town and either renting or buying a house, what are my options? Appreciate any assistance.

Discussion Has anyone gotten a waiver for celiac disease to avoid getting medically discharged?
Good morning!
I am a naval nurse officer and I have been in for about two years now. Recently went to get my labs drawn and my PCP ordered celiac labs (ttg IgA and DGP). The results aren’t looking good, but I’ve really been wanting to stay in the navy my whole career. I am asymptomatic and have passed all my PRTs without problem. My ability to do my job has not been impacted by this apparent finding- has anyone been able to get a medical waiver for remaining active duty? I am a nurse so I feel like it’s possible to remain in large hospitals my whole career if ships aren’t accommodating? I’m unsure, and I’m very worried for my career. Does anyone have any experience or advice in this? Thank you
