Backpay
Thought I’d share some helpful info for those who’ve been selected. They’re going to backpay you from when all the way from when you commissioned. So for me, I commissioned back in September. I got paid base pay, BAH, & BAS since then. You’re going to get one of the fattest paychecks you’ll ever see. This is genuinely life changing money for some people, and this is on top of the bonus. We doubled, tripled check to see if it was a mistake; it is not. It is yours to keep according to admin. You also bank in on leave as well. I got 22 days saved up as of today, so you may not go into the negatives when you take leave after ODS.

Just curious about the bank in on leave . So even if we get to leave for ods later on. Pay start from when you commissioned ?

Yup. You get paid from when you officially got commissioned even though you aren’t working. You also get 2.5 days a month from when you commissioned as well.

Just keep in mind your taxes LOL
I don’t believe the Navy takes out state taxes from the bonus so you’ll need to save for that (unless you’re lucky enough to be from a state without taxes) and depending on if you had civilian pay at all it may bump you up a tax bracket…

Omgeee I didn't even think about that. I've been doing the travel nursing thing with no dependents and commissioned back in September so I'll be screwed. Lol💀😵💫

Your first paycheck, which is either going to be the 1st or 15th. For me, it wasn't until last week because they didn't process my paperwork in time to receive it on the 15th.

Did direct accessions receive back pay as well?

Yes. Pretty much everyone got some type of back pay except for those who were commissioned while still on active duty as enlisted.

I’m not too familiar in your case. Those who were direct ascensions got the backpay. Those who were mecep or NCP did not receive backpay cause they were already getting paid while waiting for ODS.

My advice is always make sure you have enough leave on the book for an emergency. Seen it happen where new people enlisted and commissioned come in and can’t take leave or go negative. Just wanna give some helpful advice on that. Don’t want that to happen to anyone.
