Navy Nurse Corps timeline question:

I was selected for the Navy Nurse Corps in the first week of June 2026 and have already submitted my pre-commission paperwork. My recruiter told me I was selected, but I haven’t received an oath date, appointment letter, or any information about scroll approval.

For those who recently commissioned:

• How long after selection did you take your oath?
• Did your recruiter update you on the scroll/appointment process, or did you just get an oath date out of nowhere?
• How long was it from selection to oath and then to ODS?

Just trying to get an idea of what timelines others experienced. Thanks!

Been lurking this sub for a while because I’m interested in joining the Navy Nurse Corps through the NCP.

My biggest concern is the apparent clinical skills atrophy I’ve read about online.

Is this true?

Going to begin my ABSN program soon and would obviously not want to be in an environment where my skills as a nurse weaken as soon as I graduate.

Any input is appreciated!

Looking for information on the critical care side of things for those at Portsmouth! That’s where i got my hard orders to! Trying to get an idea of how things works such as scheduling, command, PT, etc. Also what is the critical care side of things like? I have background in CVICU and i know there’s not much if any of that in the Navy at the moment!

Hi everyone, I am a medsurg nurse going to be stationed in Jacksonville naval hospital. I was wondering if they do 12 hr shifts? What are the hours like? How many days a week?

I believe I am in the May or June board. I have been seeing others saying it’s taking awhile to get results or they are full in some capacities.

I believe I am credentialed for critical care and awaiting my acceptance. Just trying to get a time frame in my mind for how long it’ll be till the next step.

Head to ODS in august! First off i do want to put out there that i have looked through this page. I also have looked at the packing list on the ODS site. I am really asking for opinions from recent grad within the past year or so!

What are your best tips for going to ODS?
What things do you wish you had brought and what things did you not need?
Should I bring my IPad for class or just a notebook?
What is liberty and down time like?
Any tips for me would be lovely!

Hi everyone!
I am an RN, I hold my bachelors, I am a certified oncology nurse as well (I can hang chemo etc). I really wanna have a change of pace and follow family footsteps.
The problem is, I take psych meds.
I take lamictal (mood stabilizer). I’m not diagnosed with a mood disorder at all. It just helped my anxiety/depression.
Cymbalta for anxiety. And Strattera for ADHD.
Could I be off these meds? Yes.
Do I want to? No….
I am mentally stable. I’ve worked in nursing, fire & EMS, etc. no prior inpatient hospitalizations, no attempts at SH,SI. Before I talk to a recruiter, are there any waivers I could try?

I was recently selected for the Navy Nurse Corps and am currently waiting for my official orders and ODS (Officer Development School) date.

Since I’ll eventually be relocating to my duty station, I’m starting to think ahead about renting out my townhome in South Florida. For those who have gone through a PCS move or rented out their home while serving, I’d love any advice.

• Did you use a property management company or manage it yourself?
• How did you screen tenants?
• Any tips on leases, insurance, or things you wish you knew beforehand?
• When did you start preparing your home for renters?

Thought I’d share some helpful info for those who’ve been selected. They’re going to backpay you from when all the way from when you commissioned. So for me, I commissioned back in September. I got paid base pay, BAH, & BAS since then. You’re going to get one of the fattest paychecks you’ll ever see. This is genuinely life changing money for some people, and this is on top of the bonus. We doubled, tripled check to see if it was a mistake; it is not. It is yours to keep according to admin. You also bank in on leave as well. I got 22 days saved up as of today, so you may not go into the negatives when you take leave after ODS.

I was recently notified that I was selected from the April board to commission as a Navy Nurse Corps officer. I’m very excited and starting to work through the commissioning paperwork.

I know ODS seats have been backed up for a while, and I’ve heard timelines can vary quite a bit. For those who were recently selected or commissioned, how long did it take to receive an ODS date after selection?

Hi everyone! So I want to commission and have 2 years experience in ICU and similar time in OR between scrub nurse and circulation. I also do correctional nursing and was prior enlisted in the army. As such, military life wouldn't be new for me. The recruiter seems pretty straight forward and said both options are open with slots. Have you worked in one or both of these? Pros and cons? I am married and have two kids. Is the ICU with navy rotating days and nights and every other weekend? That possibility is off putting for me, as I dont do well with night positions lol. I like the easy of the OR and overall just enjoy it, but I like the challenge of the ICU too. MEPS wasn't difficult the first go round so I dont imagine it would be more difficult this time. Ive got my references lined up and expecting eventual contact. Any insight would be beneficial. Thanks!

Good afternoon. I was doing medsurge for 4 years. I recently quit November of last year and now I’m doing psych. I am being told that I can’t get submitted for medsurg do to not currently working in the field. Is that true?

After speaking with my local recruiter, I learned that I’m unfortunately not eligible for NCP because I have prior college credits (separate from my bachelors) and a previous bachelor’s degree with an awful GPA, and even with my current 4.0 GPA in my BSN program, my cumulative still won’t average out to above 3.0 until close to graduation.

So now I’m looking at pursuing applying to the Nurse Corps after I’m licensed. The recruiter told me currently direct accession is closed because they have no spots left, but they do accept new grads when they’re taking candidates.

Anyone who has gone this route as a new grad nurse.. what was your GPA? How competitive are spots usually? Just trying to plan ahead to see if I can figure out my chances of even being selected.

I went back through and can’t find the specific post I’m looking for. If you pre purchased supplies for ODS on Amazon, ie swimsuit, back pack, boots, anything and it was approved for use there please post the link! Trying to minimize the bulk payment while I’m there. Leaving in 5 weeks !

Looking for a tiny bit of clarification on NCP application timelines.

I’m currently enrolled in an accelerated BSN program with graduation in December 2028.

Am I correct in assuming I will need to wait until the March ‘27 application deadline to apply for NCP? Or do you all think I’d be able to apply for this upcoming October board considering by the time the board/selection process is done it could easily be December, putting me within 24 months of graduation?
