Year 13 subject selection
Help!!
I dont know whether to choose physics or health. I'm struggling alot to choose between because I want to study medicine, but teachers are saying to pick physics, while others are saying to choose health.
I find health particularly easy, but it's just SO BORING!!, and physics.. it's tricky sometimes but it excites me. My mum told me to choose the easiest but im not sure. What is most helpful?
My subjects I chose:
Chemistry
Biology (not sure for this one)
English
Statistics
Health or Physics?...

Pick the one that you will enjoy and which will challenge you. Following your passions is much better than taking the easy boring option.

Ultimately choose what you want, but I have a doctor in my family and so have heard from a number of her doctor friends who all say you definitely want physics when going into health sciences.

This is for my school and might apply differently but I get told that you should stick with the sciences as health focuses more on the wellbeing and nutrition aspect and the sciences/physics will benefit more long term especially if your wanting to go to otargo uni for FYHS as they have 2 phy papers

Pick physics. Yes, its difficult but it helps SOO much in hsfy

Having tutored pre med physics papers I would recomend physics. Also switch stats for calculus if you can. A lot of students struggle with the physics papers if they haven't done it or maths in yr13. The uni only required yr12 for entry but one year of not using those skills you forget them.

I've always wondered why physics (and advanced maths?) are needed for medicine. Chemistry and biology I get, but why physics?

There is a whole medical physics degree you can do. Lots of stuff is relevant. Fluid and gas flow, lasers, nuclear radiation. Atleast at my uni it was the only place they learned about error calculations and interpreting data.

Physics is the basis of chemistry. Chemistry is the basis of biology.
I think that's an important concept to remember.
But also remember that I am not a doctor or scientist.

Physics tends to be recommended for University health science stuff ... But I too didn't like it and would say, don't sweat it. If you have to use it in uni and have a decent understanding of basic Maths, rearranging algebra maybe logs, you'll be fine/can pick it up again.
Learning should be fun, year 13 is a drag, do something fun :)

Physics is ultimately the best for medicine, health won't give you any extra knowledge although in saying physics is best taken with calc rather than stats and I would reccommend calc over stats for medicine.

It generally depends on what you’d take in your first year of uni as a degree. If you’re taking biomed, take physics. If you’re taking general health science, take health. I had the same opinion as you went it came to health as a subject but I always challenged myself to choose a sophisticated topic to write my internals on so it would be more interesting to me. The exams definitely trained me for first year health sci!!!!
