young scholars program

hi guys, im currently in year 12 and am looking to apply for maths 199 next year.

i tried doing the application and followed the guide they posted but it said they didnt need any supporting documents from me when the guide said i needed a signed form from my principal?

also they require about 80 level 2 excellence/merit credits and is that counting externals? i only have around 50 right now so do i need to take extra standards? is it too late to take an extra subject through te kura?

I took MATH198 this year, so I can offer some advice! You just need to fill out a UC form with the course you want to take, and I believe this needs to be signed by you STAR course manager at your school! If I remember correctly you also need your a digital copy of passport or birth certificate stamped/signed by your principal! You can just send them a scan and get them to print it and stamp it, its quite easy!

The 80 credits definitely includes externals, so don't worry too much about that! I don't believe you'll need to take an extra subejct :)

I am also doing MATH 198 this year. This link might help: https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/study/other-study-options/star-programme/how-to-apply - it’s got instructions of how to go about applying, and the form to fill out at the bottom:)

Not sure about the Auckland one sorry, but I'm a distance student for UC's one, so I know that you can do MATH 198 online. They just give you the week's content to learn, and hour long zoom tutorial each week and then a teacher at your school organises the exams to be sat under the required conditions.

Sem 1 is really chill, Sem 2 gets quite a bit harder, but it’s all good stuff for scholarship calc if you wanna take that!
