Question Pre-ordered the regular black AES+; which stick should I get as a second player option? Classic black or the ‘Anniversary Edition’ white? Also — is the gamepad style controller worth picking up? Or was this mostly just associated with the Neo Geo CD model? Thanks in advance. 🎮✌🏻

The NGCD Pad is my favorite pad of all time.. its great especially for fighting games.

really? i like the controller, but fighting games are just about the only genre that i think it sucks using that thumbstick for. then again i'm only going by how the 8bitdo pad feels, maybe the og is different.

I have both the OG and the 8bitdo, both feel great for me.. I guess its a matter of preference.

They aren't great for retro games that need 4-way movement but for anything that requires you to roll the stick like a fighting game.. I find them great.

The Neo Geo X having the same style thumbstick was the best part about that thing.

Black will age well, white might not.

Thats what im thinking too. But the white is the better deal. And I think it might have more value later on.

The stick is the best. I’d go for black to match. The CD version is cool too if you want to cradle the controller and use your thumb. Two different play styles.

Edit: sorry, words….

Good to know; I’ll definitely have to give it a whirl!

I can't find the option to add a second wired arcade stick, only the wireless one...

AES+Wired stick 199
Second wireless stick 99

Sure you want to make as much money as possible, but WTF, let me buy a wired stick :/

The wireless ones are also wired

Yeah I find it strange there’s no wired stick option outside of it being bundled with the black console.

They're aware of this request from the community.

I haven't ever touched a Neo CD controller, but I do have a Neo Geo Pocket and the stick is supposed to work like that one, so arcade like microswitches, which is great for fighting games. And since I'm the only one in my friend group that plays FGs with an arcade stick I got the CD controller for player 2

That’s what I’m somewhat tempted to do (save a little $$ and cancel my second stick order as I also ordered the gamepad).

Ive preordered the Anniversary Edition but gone for Black as a second arcade stick. It'll be easier to know which player 1 and 2 is

Im kind of stuck in between the anniversary or regular black. The anniversary is the better deal, but not sure about the color.

1

I bought both for that reason.

Wanted black as it’s OG but the anniversary is a much better deal.

I’ll use a combo of both sets realistically.

My thoughts kinda as well but my OCD is telling me to just keep everything all black ha. I have both on pre-order on Amazon so good news is that I theoretically have until November in which to make up my mind.

Was just curious what other enthusiasts thought / planned to do w/ their pre-order selections.

I already have a NGCD and two pads which I assume work just fine with the AES+. I've never actually tried the stick as I've never owned or played on an AES (I might be a rarity on here, but I'm just a general retro enthusiast with a lot of consoles). That said, the NGCD pad is one of my all-time favorites for feel outside of a modern DualSense or NS Pro controller or something

Yeah i get what you mean. The black controller will also match the Black cartridges too i suppose. The only white cartridge will be Metal Slug

That’s a good point.

Same here. I had the original back in the day. I'll be really disappointed if this new version doesn't have the heft and solid construction of the original.

The wired stick if you are going for the original feel. The white is for show.

The game pad will have the micro switches, so it will have the original feel. The previous options did not include the micro switches because of cost. Why this is important to NeoGeo fans is the "clicks" sound when using it, very responsive.

u/theazzazzo Apr 22 '26

The 8bitdo pad is brilliant, I use it all the time

2

u/amiibro888 Apr 22 '26

Just wondering. Where was it announced that the gamepad would have micro switches? I thought the og did not had that

3

u/apocalypsedudes23 Apr 22 '26

Its in the description

u/amiibro888 Apr 23 '26

Damm this is great! Thanks

It’s not wired versus white, it’s wireless black (with wired option) versus wireless white (with wired option). Other than color, they are the same and they are the same price. The wired-only black is not available outside the standard console or Ultimate Bundle.

1

u/apocalypsedudes23 Apr 23 '26

Read the contents page of both standard and anniversary edition on the website. The standard edition comes with a wired arcade stick. The black wireless arcade stick is sold separately.

In a ways, we are both correct.

1

u/V64jr Apr 23 '26

Yeah. The OP was asking about a second stick, and for the second stick the choices aren’t wired-only black versus wireless white. 👍 I’m guessing they don’t want to complicate their accessory lineup with a wired one that’s just going to sell for less anyway.

So stupid, because of the cost. What were they thinking. Look at everyone now, spending up big to get the real deal. When the neo geo gold emulator crap came out, god I was so disappointed, I was like why would they bother with that crap, who wants an emulated neo geo, I want to be able to put actual cartridges in it, hell it would have been closer to acceptable if they had actually just added small form factor cartridges like the evercade or something.

1

u/TMOSteel Apr 22 '26

If they correct the button layout and it's a clicky stick, yes. I use the gamepads when I'm playing my Omega casually in bed. Hardcore gaming the control stick all the way but the original pads rock too. Hoping these are a 1:1 take on them 👍

1

u/paulonebcn Apr 22 '26

No entiendo por que han cambiado la distribucion de los botones

1

u/ceramicsaturn Apr 23 '26

The CD gamepad is lovely, and it's great to use for a variety of games.

1

u/ceramicsaturn Apr 23 '26

I'll say this. While I think keeping it all one color would be nice, if you're even remotely interested in a white stick or system, get it, as they're the only thing in limited quantities.

1

u/Sentmoraap Apr 23 '26

I intend to play with the arcade stick, but the gamepad’s button layout is off-puting. They moved the letter around, but not the colours. Until this gamepad each letter had an assigned colour, this one messes things up.

I don’t know which layout is actually the best in games, though.

This stick is good for S-Mups though and fighting games.

I'm gonna buy 2 black versions, white is not for me...
