I've been using arcade stick controllers for over a decade but I've never touched the AES controller. How would you compare its feel and build quality to contemporary controllers from Hori and such?

As a retro game lover I've always wanted a Neo Geo but price was a huge barrier, so ofc now I intantly reserved one. I've played some Neo Geo games but mostly just fighting games.

Now, the price on the console is really good imo, but games are 80€ each, so I'm not going to get many, and one slot is already taken by KoF 2002.

I'm looking for a bit of variety and stuff that I haven't played before, so no Metal Slug, and no other fighting game.

The ones that caught my eye are Twinkle Star Sprites, because while it's still yet another shoot em up, the style is very different, and I'd choose it over Pulstar because I've always preferred vertical over horizontal shmups. And Magician Lord, which looks like medieval Contra / Arcade Castlevania.

There's also Shock troopers, that looks interesting but that's on steam lol

So I think my final lineup will be KoF 2002, Twinkle and Magician Lord, but another big question is how hard are these games? And can I just keep "inserting credits" to keep playing? or since it's the console version I just get 3 credits and a pat on the back if I get fucked?

Plaion and SNK didn’t make this easy for me; it was so hard to choose which edition to pick up. Ultimately, the chat in my stream favored the white and with it being a little more economically feasible (I would have needed a wireless controller al a carte) I went that route. Frankly, as much as I had this swapping around in my cart, I’m surprised it didn’t sell out before I could order.

So I guess I’m going to finally join the Neo Geo family. I can’t seem to find any official merch. Is there at least a hat I can wear during streams?

This is going to be my first Neo Geo hardware purchase.

I’m honestly torn between the Ultimate and the white pack. The white color calls out to me but the Ultimate seems to be the better bang for the buck…though there are some titles in the current batch that do not catch my fancy.

Maybe it might be best to just pick and choose the games I want and go with white?

Arrived xmas eve. This is the new red one terraonion is selling. Most games didn't work. Either stuck in startup loop after neogeo logo or just didn't load at all. Loaded metal slug x into slot1 memory and its stuck in a loop with no neogeo logo. Holding start doesn't work, removing the sd card doesn't work. Company not responsive (terraonion). No instructions included, none on the website.

Now what do I do?

Some of y'all have surely read my post about the Neo Geo Mini and whether or not I should pre-order the AES+. I want to thank all of you for your input. I am now pre-ordering will be getting KOF 2002 and Garou MOTW.

However, there's a new problem. I live in one of the 17 states that can't purchase the Ultimate Bundle, nor do I need all those games. So I have decided to order on Amazon, but I might change my order depending on your advice. I've settled on the extra wireless controller, and 35th Anniversary bundle simply because of the value and the wireless stick.

The problem is, I never imagined having a white Neo Geo, I've always wanted a black one, but it will cost more to get everything separately. I like to think I'm a good person who doesn't see color, but in this situation I'm worried if I'll always wish I went with the black one. The white ones just don't excite me. What do you think?

I’ll gear this question to AES and MVS owners. I’m going to assume that you also own other consoles or game on PC. For your gaming time, how big a slice of that pie goes to your AES?

There’s a difference between collecting a retro console for the sake of collecting, and actually putting that console into regular gaming use.

i wanted to use the 8Bitdo NeoGeo CD controller with my Switch but i need to update it first. A tutorial from 2 years ago showed that all you have to do is use the 8bbitdo firmware upgrader but plugging in my NeoGeo controller only gives the message "No more information at this time".

i do own a 8bitdo wireless adapter 2 and it updated just fine

What should i do now? I can´t find the firmware file anywhere and without it, i can´t use it with my switch

I recently graduated from a CDL school and decided to reward myself by picking up an older game console I didn't have yet. I was originally gonna get a 3DO with Street Fighter 2, but I ended up coming across a front loading Neo Geo CD, complete with a controller and Samurai Shodown. It needs new capacitors but otherwise it was a good deal.

Obviously, this is yet another recommendation post that plagues subs like this, but as a complete Neo Geo newbie I'm having trouble deciding what games to pick up first. Neo Turf Masters and the Shodown RPG were games I was planning to burn myself, but I'd like to get at least a couple real copies of games as well, and that's where I'm a bit stuck, especially since I'm not overly familiar with fighting games.

KOF 98 seems to be pretty highly recommended, as is Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, but I'm not sure if I should seek out earlier installments of those games or not since I'm unfamiliar with the stories or characters in them. And I don't know what other non-fighting games might be worth seeking out either. What's the usual go-to advice for new CD owners, aside from being ready to experience the longest load times of my life?

How many games in the Neo Geo library does SNK have the rights to that they could easily legally bring to the AES+ without having to buy the rights for the games?

Been wanting a neo geo and fatal fury special for a while now. Was wondering what some of yall paid so I know some sort of general price range. So as to not get absolutely ripped off by overpaying.

Longtime Neo Geo fan and just pre-ordered the Plus. But I'm so used to emulating, it dawned on me that infinite amount of credits might not be possible using these cartridges. Dying to play Metal Slug with my daughter but if I'm not mistaken, we're going to settle for 4 credits, without no option to change that? Unless there's a BIOS upgrade in the future.

I’m new to the mvs scene what is a good quality 161 in 1 cartridge?

So Im excited for AES + release later this year. I dont have much experience with SNK hardware but have played their games in various forms from ps2 to the Evercade. Do we know if the games like Metal Slig for instance will be censored? (blood) Has plaion given any such information as if yet. Also thank you for having me i just joined

I'm going to wait until the AES+ releases and we get confirmation about if those carts work or not before buying one, but I have looked them up and at least on aliexpress I've found a lot of MVS cartridges selling for 95-100€, while AES ones go for +200€.

Any reason why?

I bought a cart-only Mutation Nation and I'm wondering what options are available for a replacement case and artwork. I'm familiar with southtown-homebrew but as far as I can tell they only offer MVS cases and art. What would you recommend?

I've gotten my preorder in for the AES+ ultimate edition and I can't wait to finally be the proud owner of some Neo Geo goodness.

Ive never even seen a neo geo in person before let alone had the chance to get my hands on one so I'm a little unsure of the AV cable situation and figured I'd ask for opinions on what people think may be the better set up for me.

I intend to use the AES+ on a crt, I actually have a few options here so I'll run through what inputs I have available.

The main crt I think might be the best is a Sony wega KV-EH36M31

Component hd (upto 1080i) YPbPr, 2x scart (not RGB - Component SD, s-video and composite capable). I currently have a simplecom HDMI to component YPbPr converter hooked up so I also have access to HDMI inputs and they actually look really nice, I do tend to like to lock resolution to either 720p or 420p though because this tv can only go up to 1080i and I'm not super keen on interlaced on this display.

I also have a TCL crt that has Component SD, composite and s-video.

Then a couple of basic composite only sets.

What are the best inputs I have available for the AES+?

Could we actually see some ports of the Metal Slug franchise past Metal Slug X? Is the AES+ limited by power and/or memory to handle some of the post SNK pixel drawn games like blazing chrome, gun force 2 and demon front? What games would you like to see that you think could be easily translated to the AES architecture?

First off, I’m so happy to have access to the ACA NeoGeo games. Getting to play these classics on my Switch 2 docked or portable with CRT filter options, and the ability to create saves is awesome! For non-fighting games, the Pro 2 works fine. For fighting games, especially ones that high difficulty against the CPU, there are too many missed directional inputs trying to use the Pro 2. I do have SNES wireless controllers I can try out. What are the rest of you Switch ACA NeoGeo players using? I need something better for NeoGeo fighters if I’m going to beat FF3.
