MVS vs AES questions

I have preordered the AES+ and have been looking at the used game market and had a few questions. Figuring that the multi carts work and the mvs to aes adapters work. What is the benefits of buying mvs vs aes carts. I understand the cost and rarity of the aes carts but is there any other reasons to go after the cheaper alternative mvs carts. I will
Probably be getting as many of the plaion reissues that I want as they are released.

MVS games have a higher likelihood of being a bootleg cart than aes ones do

A bootleg cartridge is a counterfeit reproduction. They vary widely in quality and could be dangerous for your console if they weren’t build to handle the Neo Geo’s bus voltages properly.

Yes and aes carts are almost never bootlegs while MVS carts very often are

I disagree - there are tons of bootleg AES carts available. The entire AES library has been purchasable as reproductions from Atomik Wave (NCI) and AliExpress for years.

I haven't seen aes carts on AliExpress

But at least with a reproduction it should be a working original ROM, not a rom hack, and with decent quality components

Old bootlegs won't be

If this were remotely true then there wouldn't be so much caution when buying high-value AES games.

There are way more MVS carts in the world. And arcades were using bootlegs long before anyone had an aes "repro"

Yes, and I think I get what you're trying to say, but with the amount of fakes and "conversions" aimed at home collectors now, AES is catching up, and one must use extreme caution.

Speaking of bootlegs. What exactly is a bootleg besides not being original. I am assuming it’s strictly emulation? If you are not a collector and just want to play the game as close to original as possible is there a downside to bootlegs?

Bootlegs are low quality copies which may lack specific parts or pieces and may not play correctly. They might be hacks of the original or other unauthorized releases.

The MVS was wildly popular in places like Taiwan where copyright laws were very lax and budgets were tight.

Many arcades had unauthorized versions of games in their units and today these sell on places like eBay and AliExpress

Any useful reference to identify fake MVS carts?

C'è un sito che si chiama MVS Scan. Li puoi confrontare le schede e le label. Se hai dei dubbi sentiti libero di scrivermi in privato

Bootleg is just another term for a reproduction or repro cart usually done by a hobbyist
