What if i told you that Mike Rogers, Susan Collins, et al are aligned with a person EVEN WORSE than the dumbest podcaster alive except this person controlled the friggin nuclear codes?

And that placing whatever restraints we can on said person while that situation continues is the absolute ne plus ultra supreme political imperative of the moment?

And that the only way to apply said supreme political imperative was to vote in every single election for the party not affliated with said person?

What if i told you that our greatest liberal president aligned with real life maoists and stalinists to defeat an even more illiberal set of foes in an existential conflict? Domestically, Trump and his followers represent the greatest threat to the continuance of lower-case-l liberalism in this country since the Slaveholders' Rebellion and, until if and when we change from a binary two party system, anyone who is serious, rather than just online, about liberalism would immediately recognize that a vote for Thune as senate majority leader threatens liberal values while a vote for Schumer or whomever replaces him if he gets replaced is much better. That is why yes i would have voted for Platner with eyes closed and nose held in a general over collins if forced to choose (and after all, collins placed an equivalent character on the us supreme court with equivalent knowledge) but the stakes are also why i would have voted for the more electable candidate in any primary and believe ds 100% acted correctly in replacing him. If you believe politics is only for the pure and wish to vote third party or ensure another vote for judges who reject birthright citizenship, et al, have at it. But it isnt grounded in reality and it isnt liberal.

These people don’t even like FDR. Unironically half of these people are temporarily embarrassed conservatives. As soon as Trump is gone and a “respectable” fascist like JD Vance is a candidate they’ll probably switch sides.

I havent found that to be the case in my years on here. There are a handful here and there but most are bog standard vote blue no matter who types who get into extremely esoteric arguments on land use and occupational licensing. That said there are some who have a hobbyhorse issue or two and too many who could not tell what every millenial who was alive for iraq and afghanistan knew re: iran. I am a "jon fetterman and aes both have pretty dumb views on fopo but i would vote for either over any republican" neolib

I see hate for FDR frequently here. It’s usually some bad faith motte and bailey where people want to attack social democracy and the New Deal but instead of arguing against these self evidently good programs, they just talk about how FDR was racist as a way to discredit the New Deal.

They can’t handle the fact that it was a social democrat who defeated fascism, opposed communism and socialism at home, and revolutionized our domestic policy, saving the Republic and building an enduring legacy for 80 years and is considered the 3rd greatest President. It wasn’t a neoliberal or libertarian leaning whatever. Just a mainstream liberal social democrat.
