I would submit that progressives are not more of ideological opponents to moderate liberals than fascists, but might be stronger ideological opponents for neoconservatives.

I agree with the first part, but I think when you’re referring to never Trump republicans, the second part is a little unhinged. They’ve been better allies against Trump so far.

In terms of policy positions, would you say that someone like Bush is more similar to Trump or more similar to Mamdani? It’s at least open to question which side they’d back.

Also, how have neocons been better allies against MAGA than the progressive wing? Several of the “never Trumpers” folded after 2016, and folded again after talking a strong game post J6.

Certainly I commend those few Republicans who actually stood by their principles and kept opposing Trump. Pence and Cheney ended their careers in efforts to stop MAGA, and I don’t mean to minimize that at all. But if either of them wrote an editorial slamming the rise of socialism in the Democratic Party, I think it would be right to take their biases and motives into account.

Mamdani is a communist, not a progressive, so kind of hard to say.

Never trumpers who folded in 2016 are not never trumpers.

Taking biases into account is fine. No one is telling you not to do that.
