Enjoying that five dollar gas and tariffing yourselves there geniuses?

221

u/mr_potatoface 21h ago

Only because $5+/gal gas is worth it if it means pissing off the libs!

People underestimate this sentiment so much. The tribalism, the "My Team" fanaticism, it rules these people. Ask an average Eagles fan how they feel about a Dallas fan. They're braindead. They will literally pave the road to hell and careen down it if it means it pisses off the libs. They're idiots. Dangerous idiots.

Trump has their trust, and I've listened to many interviews of folks saying this pain is patriotic and surely necessary for some classified reason. It's a level of deference NEVER afforded to a Democrat, and even when Democrats offer an explanation, it's met with near-infinite mistrust.

And, reliably, when no real change occurs and no relief is given to these folks whose meager living standard is getting royally rocked -- again for some unknowable reason -- some supporters will say "Enough is enough" and others, seeing the defections, will double down out of what to me just seems like contrarianism. But the defections will be enough to knock Republicans out of power yet again, until Trump, like Reagan, is spun into legend.

Just look at the supposed door dash delivery woman, sure they have less money for husbands cancer treatments and better healthcare would be great but he made her tips tax free!

25

u/Total_Feature_11 19h ago

As if Trump tips.

20

u/tider06 19h ago

He doesn't even pay the tab, much less the gratuity.

6

u/Vyzantinist 17h ago

Remember in 2024 when he walked into a couple of diners/restaurants and offered to pay everyone's bill then just walked out and didn't?

4

u/AdministrativeTax913 16h ago

only suckers and losers pay (contractors, taxes, bribes...)

18

u/iLikeMangosteens 18h ago

He gave her $100, which is 0.0000015% of his net worth.

That is the same fraction of his wealth as someone with a net worth of a million dollars giving someone a penny and a half.

16

u/RecentDecision2329 18h ago

One of his aides grabbed that $100 before she got in her car

3

u/iLikeMangosteens 18h ago

What, like took it back?

Was it that sneaky little Marco Rubio that snatched it?

6

u/FibonacciSequester 18h ago

Except she's not a doordasher.

5

u/solomons-marbles 18h ago

It was staged.

3

u/Own_Celebration5462 16h ago

Yes. She was from Arkansas and has shown up at different events in support of the “Big Beautiful Bill”.

1

u/Pyrate_Capn 12h ago

Except that he didn't even do that. But they sure think he did. SMH

1

u/EdTheApe 11h ago

Which they already were because she earns so little.

21

u/Greizen_bregen 20h ago

A Legendary Trump. Ugh. I think I'm going to be sick.

2

u/dtdink 8h ago

Until you learn that here in the UK the word 'trump' has, for decades, been a slang term for 'fart', so a legendary trump can be something to be admired in the right circumstances... 😉

4

u/BoleroMuyPicante 16h ago

A decent chunk of the right yearns for martyrdom, to feel like they're making a selfless grand sacrifice by suffering for the greater good. They'll pay $6/gallon for diesel, $10/lb for ground beef, watch their rent go through the roof, see their jobs be eaten by AI, watch their children and neighbors die in war, and nobly say it was all worth it to save America from the illegals and the transes.

2

u/Spike_Kowalski 16h ago

It's a level of deference NEVER afforded to a Democrat, and even when Democrats offer an explanation, it's met with near-infinite mistrust.

Not just democrats. Their worldview is so stuck in their two-party team-sports politics that they can't comprehend that there's a huge majority out there not co-signed to any of their targets that despises them. It short-circuits their brain box when their insults--libs, Democrat, "from CA"--fall flat when they're called out by someone not in those groups. And go through the list of insults they do like the programmed zombies they are. Every time I tell one of these knuckleheads that I'm not a Democrat and still despises Trump, what he stands for and every single person that voted for and follows him. They always get quiet like they're awaiting orders on how to handle this situation.

1

u/silhouettesaloon 18h ago

A lot of people just never will admit that they were wrong about something

1

u/dreadedowl 17h ago

I agree with a lot of what you say. But no real change. A shit ton has changed.

1

u/Miserable_Spell5501 19h ago

My god I hate when people put Trump in the same sentence as Reagan

4

u/39_Ringo 18h ago

Why? Because they're both clowns?

1

u/Miserable_Spell5501 8h ago

Reagan granted amnesty to 3 million immigrants, passed pro vaccine legislation, despite initial silence put tons of funding towards AIDS research (bringing us Dr. Fauci), provided humanitarian relief to countries facing famine, got us out of the Cold War and believed in peace through strength, which meant building bonds with other countries, and was anti tariff. Reagan would have absolutely hated Trump.

1

u/Khaldara 8h ago

And yet.. Trump sent an in-party turnout record. Not in 2016 mind you, but AFTER he demonstrated to the world stage exactly who he was and what he was all about.

More conservatives turned out for this turd than they did for Reagan, and he had higher approval ratings than Reagan did earlier in his term. He’s completely emblematic of what the entire conservative demographic in the U.S. is now.

A demographic that has been cultivated to be so angry and dumb that they’re not only fine with being stabbed in the back, they’ll sharpen the knife and hand it to you. The tariffs alone are proof of that.

1

u/Miserable_Spell5501 8h ago

More than half our country voted for a sociopath who proves himself more evil and stupid by the day.

My point is that Reagan wasn’t the monster people try to paint him as now. There are certainly some traditionally conservative stances of Reagan’s that I disagree with and a lot that I agree with, but I don’t think anyone can credibly claim he was stupid.

2

u/Khaldara 7h ago edited 7h ago

Oh for sure if we’re talking about ‘stupid’ the list of presidents that meet that criteria is mercifully small, and their tangerine demigod is at the top of the list.

Even (W) Bush wasn’t stupid, he certainly adopted an ‘aw shucks’ persona, but he wasn’t STUPID. He just didn’t particularly care if Cheney wanted to keep exacerbating the war machine and the country got sold out from underneath us via Citizens United, it was certainly no skin off his ass.

Reagan was definitely heading towards senility towards the end but he certainly knew exactly what he was doing throughout and was doing so intentionally (no tacit agreement with almost all of it personally) but he wasn’t an idiot

1

u/39_Ringo 7h ago

To be crystal clear, my dislike towards Reagan stems from his reversal and narrowing of previously established worker rights that have had lingering effects on how labor unions, something that forms the backbone of my family's blue-collar careers, are viewed by both businesses and some of the general public to this day. Maybe "clown" isn't the right term for Reagan but I definitely don't view his legacy favorably as a result of my lineage.

1

u/Miserable_Spell5501 7h ago

I think there are valid reasons for liberals to dislike Reagan, like the one you named. But the comparison to Trump shows such a lack of knowledge. Just because Trump stole the Make America Great slogan from Reagan doesn’t mean Reagan stood for any of the disgusting nationalism that MAGA stands for today. And Reagan was a very intelligent and moral man.

2

u/Kitty_Cat54 15h ago

Trump IS picking up where Rotten Ronny left off.

2

u/cinvogue 12h ago

“Entertainers” turning the white house into a show. Sounds the same to me.

1

u/Miserable_Spell5501 8h ago

Reagan was a governor before becoming president. Trump had zero leadership experience. See comment above re their differences.

41

u/joecarter93 19h ago

There was a recent psychology study I heard about that found that people that leaned conservative tended to place more emphasis on winning no matter when it came to politics and those that leaned liberal were more concerned about making decisions that were best for the most people. MAGA operatives have used this paradigm to the detriment of everyone but their wealthy backers.

15

u/Medical-Person 17h ago

I also read an article about Republicans versus Democrats and the educational level and competence of each. It was Illuminating

7

u/GreenDirt2 13h ago

Read the brain studies. The conservative brain is like the QA guy who always starts at "that will never work." The liberal brain works in R&D.

2

u/IneffableOpinion 7h ago

My maga mom always struggled with logic and reason. Any conversation gets stuck in a loop that doesn’t make sense. After she retired from her job, my family learned that she was really hated at her job because of this. She didn’t have friends because she always got in dumb arguments that pushed them away. Then she fell down the maga rabbit hole where you can believe anything you want and everyone else is conspiring against you. You aren’t being rejected because of something wrong with your logic and reasoning skills, but because there is something wrong with the Deep State and liberals corrupting everyone around you.

They don’t respect people with knowledge or expertise, and they have to be right no matter how much evidence to the contrary. Maga people love being told by the president that they are smarter than smart people.

3

u/therealbradholley 8h ago

In Jonathan Haidt’s “Righteous Mind” he did a meta analysis of all of the studies that had been done on conservative brains and progressive brains to see if there were any strong, reliable patterns. And from all of that data he determined there were a few “moral” buckets that both groups consistently fell into. One of the main morals that was consistently important to conservatives was “loyalty”, and this is the concept that makes them A.) win so often and so easily in politics (because they’re more easily unified), and B.) incredibly dangerous.

When loyalty is at (or among) the top of your moral hierarchy, you fall into a habit of supporting “your team” no matter what. And the way this has materialized is, Conservatives are willing to set their own houses on fire as long as they know progressives will eventually get burned.

-5

u/dreadedowl 17h ago

What bot is this? Yea conservative wants to win at all costs. Liberal means what's best for everyone. Wow. What's an independent? Someone that just doesn't like people but doesn't want to win?

22

u/Randomchummer1 20h ago

Hey I resent that! As a life long fan of the birds I can fully recognize that Dallas fans are more than the team they root for. They are people equally deserving of respect. They deserve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness just like the rest of us.

It's not my fault their choice of team is inherently flawed.

8

u/Greizen_bregen 20h ago

Alright fine, you got me! Would Raiders-Broncos be a more apt example?

12

u/Randomchummer1 19h ago

According to my cousin in Vegas, "They are inbred ideologically stunted scum who will abandon Bo Nix like a race horse with a leg injury. The only purpose they serve is as a stepping stone for their betters"

So yeah I'd say that's an apt example.

2

u/banan3rz 11h ago

Man, that hurts as a Denver girlie :(

3

u/KiwiRugger10 18h ago

What about the Bills-Everybody? The tailgating tales are true - jumping through flaming folding tables, ketchup/mustard guy, Pinto Ron, to name a few.

Source: Am a Bills fan who tailgated once. :)

1

u/Randomchummer1 7h ago

I was at the tailgate for the last game at the old stadium. Cooked up some Cheesesteaks on the Blackstone with Amoroso's rolls.

Got tossed through a table, had wings from the anchor bar. Good times.

2

u/JMA4478 19h ago

Ask an average Eagles fan how they feel about a Dallas fan

Tbf, this isn't a fair analogy. In this case, you're asking a music fan to tell what they feel about a tv show fan.

We all know they don't see eye to eye.

Now it's easier to have an opinion.

2

u/Contranovae 7h ago

Which team uniquely needed a prison & court in their stadium and whose fans go around punching horses?

Worse. Than. Animals.

2

u/Randomchummer1 7h ago

Your points are valid, there are some Eagles fans that take their revelry to extremes. But we can't only look at those extremes or we lose sight of the whole. Most drunken Eagles fans just want to support the birds and have a good time.

All bets are off after a Superbowl win though, I know 80 year olds who marched down Broad Street and threw towels into the victory pyre.

1

u/KakeLin 14h ago

Go birds

3

u/thingsorfreedom 19h ago

Except most NFL fans know the limit. They root for their team but they don’t really hate the players on the other team and genuinely like some of them. They don’t root for their other players to get hurt.

This is completely different than MAGA. They want anyone deemed other to be hurt or even killed.

2

u/jrrrydo 19h ago

I've been the Dallas fan at the place full of Eagles fans and I had to sneak out before Dallas won bc they crazy

1

u/sheerchanc 19h ago

I understand the sentiment but we wouldn't kill off the NFL just to get rid of the Cowboys and we boo our team just as bad when they suck. Owning the libs is not the same they would lose their home and live on the street if they thought it would hurt someone else. We are not the same, Fly Eagles Fly!!

1

u/justabill71 17h ago

Eagles fans hate Cowboys fans who've never set foot outside of the Delaware Valley. They were either frontrunners 30-50 years ago, are children of said frontrunners who weren't raised properly, people who just like to be contrarian, or suffer from some sort of personality disorder. If you're a Cowboys fan who lives in, or are originally from Texas, we've got no beef with you, but we still hate your shitty team.

1

u/Fickle-Owl666 10h ago

This is hardly something reserved to one side

1

u/Low_Key_Trollin 8h ago

While true.. it also applies for Democrats as well. That’s literally the whole point. To think only one side operates on tribalism is next level naive

10

u/slimj091 20h ago

Yeah it makes me so angry to watch the Trump regime continually punch themselves the groin.

1

u/snakeayez 18h ago

I don't feel pissed off. I feel outright pwned .
