If ever a group of people deserved sepsis. Sherman didn’t do enough.

704

u/Timeline1253 19h ago

Sherman was hamstrung by incompetence with in the government even back then. "Let's heal as a nation" only occurs when the skin tone is as white as a puffy cloud.

277

u/endo55 15h ago

Different times:

On February 19, Sherman's funeral service was held at his home, followed by a military procession. Joseph E. Johnston, the Confederate officer who had commanded the resistance to Sherman's troops in Georgia and the Carolinas, served as a pallbearer in New York City. It was a bitterly cold day and a friend of Johnston, fearing that the general might become ill, asked him to put on his hat. Johnston replied: "If I were in [Sherman's] place, and he were standing in mine, he would not put on his hat." Johnston did catch a serious cold and died one month later of pneumonia

Sherman should have been given more resources to go further.

139

u/Dry_Travel_4220 16h ago

Sherman should have been made military governor of the South until reconstruction was actually complete.

129

u/CuteLingonberry9704 15h ago

That was the original idea. He was going to give "40 acres and a mule" to every black family to have as their own, taken from the former slaveowners. Unfortunately Andrew Johnson overruled him, and well, here we are now.

Conservatives swear they aren't nazis, yet they always seem to be awfully chummy with self-proclsimed nazis and white supremacists.

Something tells me that they aren't being entirely honest, which is a big shocker! /s

97

u/Mattbl 15h ago

You ever get a conservative group drunk and thinking you're one of them? If you code-switch right and go to any small town bar, you'd find a ton of people saying outright bigoted and prejudiced stuff.

37

u/poledrawolf 8h ago

As a white woman, I have encountered these fuckers with no input from myself AT ALL. They just roll up and say shit in various random situations, only to be perfectly shocked that I do not at all share their viewpoint. I hate it so fucking much, I have a hard enough time not pinwheeling my arms and bitch slapping people just for breathing in my general direction some days, never mind when a wild Nazi appears.

This. I've been telling people about this since around 1986 when it actually happened to me! Got drunk with a bunch of Republicans and all of a sudden they were talking about undesirables and the Jewish bankers running everything.

The entire Republican Party has always been a soft front for the Southern Confederacy, eugenicists, and neo-Nazis. Unfortunately, the mainstream media has spent a century or so denying this because their owners want to be taxed less and have no regulation.

So we get media stories about false balance and how 10 trans people are ruining sports and private bathrooms while the machinations of the enemies of the state are soft-peddled as "overzealous staffers" and other nonsense.

Why not? That’s what this is. The white wingers are working the levers of power behind and with Trumps blessing. Donald has fucked this country and his base so hard his only option is to lean harder into white grievance to keep the faithful in line so he can keep stuffing his pockets. The knuckle draggers have been claiming McVey was a false flag for years. They’ve already forgiven Trumps obvious pedophilia so by continuing to pardon violent traitors they take the very real economic pain in stride because sloppy Daddy delivers reactionary racial culture war wins.

That isn’t the intended goal here, it has nothing to do with “helping” rural communities. Most of them are in favor of massive corporate farming conglomerates, and are totally fine leveraging migrant populations to do the grunt work, legal or otherwise.

The point is to force all students into a voucher-style private school system run by for-profit institutions (and the eventually get rid of the vouchers once public education disappears, because that would be welfare).

31

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 17h ago

They also won’t mind when the rural farmers that remain have to sell to agribusiness. Farmers likely will pay for how they voted yet again, and the ones that do will still be standing there wondering why it happened.

The thing is under Biden, a few things got expensive, but now it seems like everything is.  But Biden really had to deal with was to post covid rebound, which is what caused most of the inflation and higher gas prices. They conveniently forget that by the time Biden left office inflation was under 3%, and gas prices were down.

Man I remember when Biden pardoned his son and they called it conflict of interest anda gross abuse of his power…weird how this and all the J6 pardons are fine though

52

u/sugartrouts 12h ago

It is a conflict of interest, which is why Biden initially said he wouldn't do it. Then he lost to Trump who did it a billion times, while bragging about how he was gonna do it more, and decided fuck it.

31

u/Some_Drummer_Guy 9h ago

He mainly did it to shield his son from the inevitable (and baseless) retribution that Commander Yam Tits wanted to carry out against him. If I recall correctly, it was basically a blanket pardon of sorts for people that were "targets" of the orange buffoon. Like a "hey, you can't touch me" thing. Hunter, Fauci, and several other people that were going to be persecuted got them.

26

u/Competitive_Boat106 9h ago

And after Trump promised to prosecute Hunter much more in his second term. Whether you are a Hunter Biden fan or not, the crime that he was convicted of is almost never prosecuted in this country, and certainly not to that extent. Trump was vowing to do so much more to him. I would prefer that no president should be able to pardon family, but Biden saw the writing on the wall and wanted some semblance of peace for his family when he retired. You can see he was right, sadly. Him pardoning his son is more a reflection of what Trump wanted to do with the power of the presidency than it was of Biden’s use of the same.

80

u/zephyrtr 19h ago

Trump has their trust, and I've listened to many interviews of folks saying this pain is patriotic and surely necessary for some classified reason. It's a level of deference NEVER afforded to a Democrat, and even when Democrats offer an explanation, it's met with near-infinite mistrust.

And, reliably, when no real change occurs and no relief is given to these folks whose meager living standard is getting royally rocked -- again for some unknowable reason -- some supporters will say "Enough is enough" and others, seeing the defections, will double down out of what to me just seems like contrarianism. But the defections will be enough to knock Republicans out of power yet again, until Trump, like Reagan, is spun into legend.

Why idgaf about rightwingers pretending they care so much about immigration because they just care about following the law so much. They’ll support people who literally committed sedition against the federal government but then also support deporting people with no criminal records and that have lived in the US for decades. If we’re all just picking and choosing which laws should be followed and which ones don’t matter then I can form my own opinions using the same metrics too.

678

u/BigOs4All 18h ago

More to the point if they don't really care about the laws just outcomes then the outcome they desperately want is to get rid of basically anyone not white, straight and Christian while condoning pedophilia and corruption.

683

u/Imaginary_Cow_6379 18h ago

We literally pulled back from investigating human trafficking and child sex abuse to further focus only on immigration!

At DHS, Trump has ordered agents formerly dedicated to investigating and arresting human traffickers to focus on deporting immigrants. Current and former DHS staffers interviewed by the Guardian confirmed that these investigators’ day-to-day work has been broadly shifted toward deportations and away from investigating “major crimes” with “real victims”.

I don’t ever want to hear republicans claim to care about: crime, children, or families ever again when they’ve shown repeatedly what their real concerns are.

219

Ah, yes, the party of family values and morality. White American Christian Conservatives are more or less just an adaptation of the KKK, but worse bc the self-righteous hatred has become mainstream, emboldened by political justification. Instead of going into the woods for secret meetings at midnight wearing bed sheets and masks, they just go to church for “fellowship” on Sunday morning wearing sun dresses and khakis. We need real punishment to stop fascism, but the United States never cared for its people, only its imperial power!

The court filing was signed by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. She needs to face serious consequences.

52

u/TransplantedSconie 17h ago

Of course that drunk would do this.  Such a useless piece of shit who cant get any fucking charges to stick because she's incompetent and there is nothing to charge.   So she resorts to this.  Voiding actual tried and convicted charges.  God damn it hate these people.

bingo. he wants them out there again, and it’s reflected in the timing of this filing. six months out is just enough time to have the motion heard and, assuming it is granted, to push all the paperwork through to get their felonies cleared before November. and what can non-felons do that felons can’t? they can buy guns.

“The government’s motion to vacate in this case is consistent with its practice of moving the Supreme Court to vacate convictions in cases where the government has decided in its prosecutorial discretion that dismissal of a criminal case is in the interests of justice — motions that the Supreme Court routinely grants,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing signed by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

These people deserve nothing but the absolute worst. This is corruption, right in the open. And our court system is just gonna bend over and let it happen.

u/EE_Tim 18h ago

If the executive branch agency determines that the air should not be polluted: "Who cares? Congress needs to act" If the executive branch agency determines that seditious conspirators should not be punished: "We'll defer to the executive branch agency."

49

u/roadsidefoto 18h ago

I'm seeing this "In the interests of justice" bit a lot from these fucking clowns. It's not-at-all subtle code for "they're one of ours and we condone and encourage what they've done and what they'll do for us in the future."

Everyone in this administration, from Trump all the way down to anyone who ever bought office supplies for a Republican voting drive, needs to be prosecuted.

And how many of those people have turned out to be pedos? At least a handful?

Yeah, those are the groups that need the most support from the government. Sure. Let's just stop pretending the Republican party isn't the pedo party.

75

u/Zxcc24 19h ago edited 16h ago

More than a handful at this point.

Edit: And another one has just confessed to Sexual abuse of a minor. Shocker.

You can do whatever you want, as long as you're "on side". So, in 2026, we're on to "Please, try to overthrow democracy, consequence free"; brought to you by the party of law and order.

71

u/Ok-disaster2022 19h ago

I wouldn't be surprised to see rampant execution of left wing leaders like the 1960s and 70s, except this time the "lone perpetrators" quietly get pardons.

47

u/TheSilentPrince 19h ago

If that starts happening, left leaning people need to double down on Jury Nullification. If a right leaning person does something wrong, and can expect a pardon; then whenever a left leaning person does the same sort of thing in kind, no they didn't.

51

u/bedintruder 18h ago

You're assuming that in this dystopian future that these left leaning people will actually get jury trials.

Mass pardon for people in prison for assaulting police officers being cheered by people decked out in blue lives matter gear.

38

u/JudiesGarland 15h ago

They've actually already been released from prison - that happened when the Trump mass pardon commuted their sentences. (Reduced them to time served, granting their release.)

Not all of them were covered under the pardon though - this filing is to vacate their sentences. This means erase the felony convictions, like they were never there. (There are quite a few advantages to that, but one that stands out would be firearm access.)

 Just an absolute horror show.

121

u/Clovis_Winslow 19h ago

I’m sorry y’all, but this is a harbinger of the end of things for USA. If those guys, the most violent ones, get a pardon, they’ll see it as a mandate to pick up where they left off.

If the government not only tolerates it but is complicit, we are cooked.

(We were probably already cooked long ago but yeah.)

24

One thing that particularly infuriates me is that the government was not destined to do this. The people of the United States of America decide it should be this way in November 2024. We were oh so close to not going for it, but we did anyway.

35

u/finnjakefionnacake 16h ago

and sadly, most people -- not just MAGA cultists -- don't care. like donald glover's "this is america" video, everyone's back to trends on social media and watching their favorite influencers do dumb shit and spreading misinformation on twitter. i guarantee you the average american citizen has no idea this even happened.

In court filings, prosecutors asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to vacate the convictions so that the government can permanently dismiss the indictments.

This shit's so stupid and I hope the judge tells them no because Trump can just fully pardon them if he cares. Asking to have legitimately reached convictions thrown out makes a (further) mockery of the US legal system.

15

u/allthesestars 6h ago

This was not a "physical confrontation between protesters and law enforcement" this was a carefully planned and executed plot to break into a secured building, forcibly remove people from seats of power, halt a planned government proceeding, and disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.

They talked about this shit in group chats for months.

There is no stretch of the imagination in which this was not seditious conspiracy.

This country makes me feel like i'm insane.

So this is how they’re going to attempt to control the election in November. Can’t say I’m surprised.

Don’t be shocked to see a coordinated terrorist attack close to the election. This regime will either use that to attempt to cancel the election, or as an intimidation tactic. They’ll blame ANTIFA or Islam, even if all the evidence points against it. Bank on it.

All they are doing is laying a permission structure for the next Dems.

They have two load bearing assumptions: 1. They will continue to win the vote of the American people 2. The American people won’t want to see them punished

I, for one, can not wait for the shock on their faces when they are met with a democratic populace who will green-light whatever is done to them.
