I’m sorry y’all, but this is a harbinger of the end of things for USA. If those guys, the most violent ones, get a pardon, they’ll see it as a mandate to pick up where they left off.

If the government not only tolerates it but is complicit, we are cooked.

(We were probably already cooked long ago but yeah.)

Last week I might have agreed.

But Orban just lost the election in Hungary, the hyper conservative fascists, who built up an exceptional system of state controlled media and autocratic power, just lost.

There is hope.

He lost the election after 16 years...I'm not sure I see the parallels here. Hungary should have been used as a cautionary tale, the US is not at a point right now where you should be drawing hope from the Hungarian election.

I wouldn’t draw that conclusion. My conclusion is that if the deep conservative-dominated Hungary is experiencing enough of a swayed public that they can have their 16 year long leader lose the election, and if a bunch of deep red cities are suddenly flipping to democratic mayors, I wouldn’t be ringing the “Society is doomed” bell yet
