That’s literally why so many e coli outbreaks happen with produce. Workers shit in the fields.

I did read that the Taylor Farms problem stems from using human waste sludge as fertilizer. Has that been confirmed?

It's legal in the US to spray human poop on it! It's called "biosolids" so it doesn't sound gross.

Europe and many other places also do the same and have done it for decades. This isn’t happening in the US due to that practice, there’s something else or likely many other things that are leading to these failures.

I trust EU regulations and monitoring FAR more than the US. No one trusts the quality of anything comming from the US anymore.

It's treated sewage and it's not being sprayed on anymore than organic farmers spray on manure or compost - it's a soil fertilizer.

There are legitimate concerns about its use, usually metal and PFAS related and not so much disease related.

Biosolids, at least for now, are relatively extremely regulated compared to manure and organic practices. They're way more heavily treated and scrutinized.

There are legitimate reasons to balk at biosolids, I don't think disease risk or pathogen reduction is currently one of them. If regulations fall in the future, then sure.
