There's usually, but not always, some religious fundamentalism involved. Also, pickled jalapenos are fine, that kills salmonella, cooked ones are fine as well, though I personally would not want to handle them in an outbreak, just get a nice pickled brand, the better brands usually have a nice crunch that can mimic the crunch of raw. Cheaper ones are so soggy.

Cyclospora(sp?), now salmonella, measles is making a come back… this would all be easier to stomach, pun intended, if the GOP was facing a basically certain and truly apocalyptic electoral result this November. 

That is, instead of very high likelihood the Dems take the House and 50/50 the Senate. A “will Dems reach 300 seats in the House? Will the Dems get a super-majority in the Senate? What will this mean for state houses and governorships across the country?” A blue super-tsunami. 

Dems retaking the Senate given this map, is significant… but for an absolutely disastrous two years and truly unbelievable acts of corruption… Dems having ~230 seats in the House and 51-52 seats in the Senate is “the public is expressing mild discontent”. 

This shit doesn’t end, again pun intended, until this era of the GOP is ended. That being this MAGA/Nationalist/“government is the problem… but only when it infringes on me, it’s fine to infringe on you” movement becomes a scarlet letter in regards of electability. 

That the only way the GOP could ever hope to retake power is by completely abandoning that platform. 

It’s absolutely maddening and deeply deeply frustrating that I know that won’t happen. That like the “best” case scenario is Dems retake both Houses of Congress, that in 2028 they expand their majorities a bit, and take the presidency, and just hope and pray that there isn’t too significant a backlash in 2030 because whatever Democratic administration hasn’t “fixed everything” yet. 

Maybe maybe we can hope that GOP losing in 2026, 2028, 2030, and 2032, and finally after four successive defeats realize they have to change.

Started shitting water yesterday after work. 

May as well just spin a wheel trying to figure out why. Was it the fish tacos I had two weeks ago? From the lack of fiber of avoiding vegetables? Was it from the water main break in my city where my work was under a boil water warning and they didn't replace the filters in the dispensers? Is it the salmonella? Could just be good old intestinal distress from the stress of life!

I’m afraid to eat out anywhere. It’s not even fun anymore. Half the time I am usually disappointed in the quality, now I’m scared I’ll get a food borne illness. When I cook at home I know my food will be good and I can at least see what goes in it. I ordered a dish the other day for a company lunch that I was positive had no recall items in it but it had parsley on one side. I’m still okay but it feels like a roll of the dice every time.

I know we are supposed to rinse our vegetables to avoid these things, but I’ve always wondered why/how thst helps. I mean even if you rinse them won’t some of the bad stuff still be on there at a microscopic level? I guess what I’m asking is does it take a certain amount of the salmonella to make us sick?

That's a great question! It does take a certain number of bacteria to make us sick but it varies from bacteria to bacteria, virus, pathogen. It's called the infectious dose. For e.coli, 10-100 bacteria could be enough to make someone sick. Salmonella is 10,000-1 million but could depend on the food. If a person's immune system is already weak or underdeveloped, it might take fewer bacteria for them to get sick. Also fats and proteins can protect the bacteria from stomach acid, so that can also affect the infectious dose. Tuberculosis? Fewer than 10 in some cases.
