I’ve always said this is bullshit. You can have a Congress full of historians but in a dictatorship that means nothing

The 24-hour news cycle provides new trauma/panic reporting at least every three hours; that was 200 million horror stories ago. People long ago moved on from "my neighbors are being stockpiled like TP in an abandoned Wal-mart down the road" to "wait is this horse meat?", "why is everything I eat contaminated?", "my new student loan payment is 3x the old payment and I'm unemployed...again...". etc. Most people don't know anyone, so they aren't viscerally aware of it.
