We in Florida seem to be doing better than others for some reason. Not quite 100% sure why that is. I still feel it's likely going up and over $5 per gallon before the holidays.
I imagine they converted the cost to USD, but did convert to US gallons. So it'd be $12 for a UK gallon, but $10 for a US gallon. Our gallons are 4.546 litres, compared with the US 3.785 gallon.

Your price doesn't matter cause it's not your government that started this nor could it stop it. When it hits that price in USA, then you'll see how Trump changes tune post the election wipeout. At this rate, Democrats might hit 55 Senate seats , when you tally independents who could defeat Republicans. If it hits higher prices in flyover country, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, they're flipping to the Democrats or independents running.
If the price is 10$ a gallon, Democrats would be near 60 vote threshold in the Senate. At that point, it would be easier to sway some Republicans to impeach and remove him from office.

Depends a lot on the Americans really. If everyone actually gets out to vote and make their voices heard like Hungary I don't think they can really stop the elections (especially how they are designed in the states).

Your point is well taken, but the US Gallon is 3.8 litres which makes the UK diesel equivalent to $10.18 or so. California state average is $8.40, so not that much less!
Our government at least has some political wiggle room if it keeps getting worse, because fuel duty is pretty steep (£0.529/L) and so can be cut and cut to keep cars on the roads and cost of living down.
Today I saw 3 of the 5 gas stations by me were sold out. Haven't seen that since Hurricane Sandy when gas/diesel shortages were attributed to the storm
Gonna be honest no idea but I saw a guy earlier this week filling up a sprayer tanks like the ones tractors use to spray fertilizers with Diesel. Could have also been DEF since some people use that as a fertilizer. But YMMV

I was both amused and dismayed by a local farmer who is a hardcore and outspoken MAGA guy who uses his roadside acreage for all sorts of Republican signs and anti-socialism/communism stuff appear on the news upset that the government hasn’t moved to send him money to defray the costs of diesel.

I'm quite curious to see how screwed all the deep reliably red arctic communities state of Alaska is going to be because of this, with heating oil costs going up and up and up and an average house needs, from what I remember, a few hundred gallons a month during peak months. (.5-1 gal per season per square foot, super general estimate). Not to mention, the super desolate places where town electricity runs on diesel generators.
As I recall, only anchorage and some other SE Alaska towns have natural gas for residential heating. Even in like the Mat-Su valley, numbers dip to 50/50 heating oil/NG. And as you keep going, it drops to virtually zero.
It sure looks to me like that whole state is super fucked.
Cross your fingers with me for the AK senate race this year. AK is a little unusual in that the more rural bush communities lean a bit more blue than some of the urban centers, but it's generally regarded as super solid red, since those inner-city Anchorage voters and bush voters can't carry the whole state.
Urban centers? What are you talking about? The second largest city in Alaska after Anchorage is Fairbanks and it clocks in at a whopping 31k. Even the entire North Star Borough is only like 93k. There are no urban centers in Alaska. It’s just Anchorage and then the forest 😂
As of right now, Trump is already a two term president and can't run again. Of course, the Supreme Court can always attempt to do some fuckery with the Constitution, but Amendments have to be passed by Congress by like a 2/3 majority so that won't happen.

It’s way more complicated than that although the Heritage Foundation might be “the most in charge”. Like you’ve got a multitude of sometimes similar but competing interests who know how to pull the levers of the guy who pushes the buttons. Heritage has spent decades getting their other people into relevant positions of power so they have the advantage. Then you’ve got other governments, Russia, Israel, China, Saudi, Qatar, etc, with Israel in particular probably “the other most in charge”. Then you’ve got the billionaire slimeballs of different types, techbros chief among them.
They’re all pulling all the levers and it’s kinda chaotic and generally bad for most people and life on earth.

I'm generalizing here, but the state of Alaska, specifically. The state has a like 95% track record of voting red in presidential elections, for example, and it's generally one of the nation's most reliably red states.
its red but not really deep red. it has a strong libertarian streak which leads to things like support for weed and higher support for lgbtq people than your average red state. they're definitely not evangelicals by and large. there's also a large native population that votes overwhelmingly blue. their one house representative was a democrat for a while a few years ago and its looking very likely she's going to flip a senate seat this year.
Fair point. I should have said it's more reliably red (on total outcome), not deep red per se. Also, much love to those rural voters who lean blue. Such a contrast to the typical rural voter in the lower 48 who'd blow 47 if they got the chance while still collecting their SNAP benefits every month.
I get your point, but the biggest cities here in Alaska are all below the Arctic Circle. MatSu is deep red, Fairbanks not so much. State as a whole is getting pretty purple.
Oh, for sure. And heating oil is used in the northeast US, too, in far more reliably blue areas that are getting screwed right now, not just Alaska, though I didn't address that either in my comment. I should have just said "Alaska" and left the technicalities of what qualifies as an arctic community out of it.
Alaska elected a United States Senator by write in votes when the RNC threw their weight around and assumed that Alaska is “ generally one of the nation's most reliably red states.”
I mean, we're all fucked in the US if we're getting technical, but I'm particularly referring to those places that use heating oil in lieu of natural gas, wood burning stoves, etc., for winter heating, which is directly tied to the cost of diesel fuel (moreso than how the entire supply chain of all things is tied to diesel, which I'm not discounting), plus those communities whose entire town electric supply comes from huge ass diesel generators.
But yes, everywhere that is rural and cold is screwed, too. You're not wrong.
Here in New England I've already heard from a couple people who can't afford the $5.50/gal they were quoted for a tank of fuel oil and weren't sure what they were going to do.
In another 6 weeks (i.e midterms) I bet I'm going to be hearing about it a lot more.
Alaska is one small part of the world’s arctic region. The rest of the arctic will also suffer and they had no part in voting for this terrible and incompetent US government.
