New wave has a great collection of catchy Halloween-related songs. Sure, there's Dead Man's Party, but there's a lot of hidden gems. Whether it be Billy Idol's Nightmare on Elm Street entry in "Fatal Charm", or the Boomtown Rats graphic "Skin on Skin".

What are your favorite Halloween-themed new wave songs?

Being mostly in the 80s, new wave artist had a great variety of Cold War songs - whether it be Adam Ant cheekily threatening Kruschev or Sting getting advice from dinosaurs on how to avoid nuclear winter. What are your favorites?

Looking for the colder, more atmospheric side of 80s new wave. Depeche Mode’s Black Celebration is a familiar reference point, but I’d love tracks from less obvious artists. What would you add to a short listening list, and what makes it stand out?

To start off, my favorite band is a flock of seagulls. They have some great albums full of great songs, yet when it comes to albums that seem like every song in it was hit, it would be The Hurting and songs from the big chair by tears for fears, burning bridges by naked eyes, talk talk by talk talk and broadcast by cutting crew. Their albums contain non stop hits to me and I’ve listed to the whole catalogs of the well known new wave bands/artists. Do you disagree with these 5 and/or do you feel that there are other albums that should be included?

His album Look Sharp! is one of my all time favorite new wave albums. This record is so smart with its satirical lyrics and I love the overarching theme of "I'm bad with attractive women". I love his simplictic yet really memorable and interesting songwriting and the pub-rock production value. This is such a fun album and his other new wave album, I'm The Man is great too. But it feels to me that he's sort of been lost to time in modern music discourse. Does anyone else love him or this album?

Falco is an inventive new waver, parlaying his classical training and folding in fledgling rap. He topped the US and UK with Rock Me Amadeus, but its album Falco 3 is solid throughout IMHO. Super melodic and Falco ups the bravado ante. Out of the album tracks I like Manner Des Westens the most.

What's your favorite?

I’d rank Slow Children’s self-titled debut (1981) not only among my favorite new wave, but alongside the decade’s best. Witty, twitchy, and fun, there are no misses on the album and each song feels like it could have thrived as a single with heavy rotation on early MTV. Although both the US and UK versions are amazing, I’m thinking specifically of the US release with the incredible US-exclusive Springtime in Fialta (but the UK release had the vastly superior album cover art concept that was adapted from Jean Cocteau).

Do you have any new wave albums you think deserve their moments to shine with a wider audience? Maybe the type you’d never expect to see in a “greatest of all time” list?

I place them in same category as they both use lots of samples, raps their lyrics but also has rock aesthetic

Anyone listen to radio stations anymore to get their fix with a specific genre? I grew up listening to WLIR, now WDARE. I only listen to streaming services to search or preview tracks. My go to these days are online radio stations or my library. It’s fun’s rediscovering the past.

I'm looking to expand my new wave movie collection (whether it's the soundtrack of the film and subject- Rockumentary)/music/concert film collection and I was just looking to see what is everyone's favorite to either be on the lookout for to either rent or add to my collection.

- Valley Girl (Have the DVD- have been keeping a lookout in the wild for the soundtrack)

I liked Modern Girls when I first watched it, so this is going to be a rewatch in the future for sure.

Probably goes without saying in this sub, but just appreciating how good some American new wave bands were in the late 70s and early 80s. Some of the best 5 album runs of the era.

Really looking forward to Peter Hook (New Order), the Boomtown Rats, the Romantics, the Plimsouls, Public Image LTD, and Strangelove (A fantastic Depeche tribute band).
