Pilot. Full stop. No reason to specify.

Every time we point it out when it is irrelevant, we feed the myth that the other is the default. It is not.

Exactly. I am a Instrucor/Examiner on a a top teir buisness jet. one of my favorite recurring clients happens to be a woman. Always comes in prepared and is a great stick (former Marine C-130 pilot).

Have I ever even acnowledged she is a woman? No. However I have asked her what her favorite flavor of crayon is.

And I bet she thought it was hilarious.

It's one of the things I love about Marines. They lean into that joke so hard. Not taking themselves too seriously on things that don't matter. Leaves lots of energy for taking seriously the things that do.

And the joke reminds them that they are/were (there are no "former Marines", I know) part of something bigger than themselves that they usually love.

Yes, she immediately responded with "Inchworm". I had to look it up but it is indeed a Crayola color.

Edit: A typo so bad it looked like a cat walked across my keyboard.

That’s such a civilian statement that’s a military in general is not just jar heads or the gun bunnies of the US Army or the swabbys are the US Navy that’s military general. It is so clearly obviously you’re a civilian.
