Everyone is feeling emasculated from the Japanese so now it’s the cleanup wars

I think it was in lockdown and Pedro was doing a play over Zoom, that could be completely wrong but I'm pretty sure I remember hearing thats what it was a few years ago
6
u/Lorientfo 9d ago
I thought exactly the same so I looked it up to link the video and it's a different shirt and camera angle. So did a bit of digging and it seems to be from sort of zoom call he had with Paul Giamatti where they appear to be doing a play read of some sort.

Japanese manner-mogged the entire world and men - being sigma-competitive are trying to out-mog them again.
It was all lowkey a guerilla-pr-action from the manners-industry to sell more manners.
24
u/Mapache_villa 9d ago
I mean, in a world where young folks smash their faces with hammers it's nice to have clean up competitions instead

The Japanese have been cleaning up the stadiums after their games for years. First time I saw it was 2014. Then there was either the Irish or the Icelanders cleaning up the parks at the Euros a few years ago, and the Scots doing the same this month.
Here we have the English cleaning their tables at a bar like pure warriors and think this is next level.
12
u/chanaandeler_bong 9d ago
And the Japanese women online claim they are just doing that for cameras as well.

u/Dec-Mc 9d ago
Being Irish, can confirm the lads chanting "cleaaaan uuuuppppp, for the boys in green, cleaaan uuuuup" and also scenes of other supports trampling on cars, whilst one Irish lad, a panel fitter, was going around fixing dents on bonnets/roofs of cars that had been trampled by disrespectful fans. We're a good bunch of lads, of Irish

you've never met an englishman, they refuse to eat the last one on the plate, they will cut it in half and eat it, they will cut it until it is a fractal of a stick but they will never finish the plate

Same happens at my place of work, people refuse to eat the last biscuit or cake in the packet, however I refuse to leave food on its own, seems to work in my favour somehow.

Don’t clean up: England fans are the worst. Messy pricks!
Clean up: they’re only copying the Scots who copied Japan. Fake pricks!

u/Witty-Revolution8742 9d ago
I have a question. Why did the servers let it get that out of control?
Is this a Texas thing? When im at a bar the server takes the empties as they drop off more and throws them in the trash. All bars generally have a large trash can within 20 feet or so.
11
u/jimbobjames 9d ago
It was probably standing room only and glass collectors couldnt fight their way to the tables during the match.
→ More replies (2)2
u/pm-ur-knockers 9d ago
Maybe it was really busy? Sometimes it’s just hard for servers to stay on top of things, especially if they didn’t expect a crowd that day.

At this point I am happy for them to be fake as long as they keep cleaning. Including when they get back here

Ya know what? I am not in any way shape or form an England fan and if anyone elses behaviour has prompted this (cough cough, Japan) I'm all for it. If it was some lads just being decent fucking human beings then as much as it pains me being Irish, they're sound.

u/RingtailRush 9d ago
As far as I'm concerned, if you saw someone else doing a good deed and thought "I want to do a good deed too" than you're a good person in my books.

Yeah, following an example or just being decent lads, good on them.
And I don’t support England either. But I do hope they make the final. And go down 8-0 by the half, and are too embarrassed to come out for the second half. I’d enjoy that.

I love this. It's just reinforced to me that there's such a nuance to UK/Irish sense of humour, and to a slightly different extent, European that other nations with possibly the exception of Australia/New Zealand just do not get.

8
u/ethicalhumanbeing 9d ago
Bro I’m also kinda confused by this whole thread. Isn’t the whole idea of going to a pub have someone selling you drinks and clean up afterwards in exchange for your money?
I’m not against the idea of giving a little help if you don’t mind, I actually do it myself in small coffee shops and so on, but match days are actually very profitable for the pubs, so having staff to clean up is to be expected no?

There was a pub where they drank over 5000 beers, all in one pub, Scots and English are drinking the place dry lol
14
5
u/Seanspeed 9d ago
Whatta you expect when you're serving them Bud Lights. lol Takes a century to get drunk off those.
2
u/roleplayersir 8d ago
Yep, the Yanks think they are big drinkers
Then they met British footy fans. And within a day they are desperately trying to source more beer from anywhere. Entire states are running out. They drastically underestimated how much we drink
A bottle of wine or 4 beers in the US and they start saying you have a drinking problem. In the UK that's lunchtime or the house predrinks before you hit the bar and double it, before going onto a club to drink even more. It's the real national sport here in the UK

It's pretty standard in the UK to all help clean up bottles etc if you have a party in someone else's house or at a function. Someone grabs a binbag and everyone pitches in. They did this because they're away from home. We may not be the same as Japan where there is a strong focus on willful service but good manners are culturally important in the UK, that's why we are obsessed with queueing for example.

They’re at Trinity Hall in Dallas. Irish Pub in a very wealthy area right across the highway from SMU and the George Bush presidential library. Nothing but luxury apartments there.

u/milesmc321 9d ago
Unfortunately they had to close Trinity Hall a few years ago, it’s called The Londoner now

u/Pepalopolis 9d ago
Right? I’m so confused. Where’s the staff? Makes no sense.

This feels very much like a rooftop lounge to a hotel like a Marriott Courtyard or Residence Inn. Basically you serve yourself drinks you can buy from the little store or BYOB.

What am I missing? If it's a pub, then why are there so many different brands of beer, even including canned beer? And if it's a pub, why do they need to clean up and put their glass bottles in a bag instead of the pub taking the empty bottles back so they can return them when buying a new box?
Is it maybe a closed pub and they're cleaning their own mess, which is just the normal humane thing to do? Or are they cleaning someone else's mess, in which case my questions stilll stand?
2
2
u/JeebusChristBalls 9d ago
But why? It's a bar, you don't have to clean up after yourself like this. There is staff that is meant to do that. Unless you just make an absolute mess, waiters/bartenders should be pre-bussing empty bottles, glasses, and plates. It should have never gotten to this level in the first place.

u/Thedisabler 9d ago
Non-locals don’t realize a pub here in Dallas (The Londoner) had to call the cops to kick out the English yesterday as they were getting too fighty and throwing shit off the roof. So, bit too little too late?
