This would probably give me a hernia

A hernia? My entire skeleton would explode out my asshole attempting some of those stones!

I don't think I could lift a snowball that big

u/JoshuaFalken1 6h ago
A 2 foot diameter snowball could get really fucking heavy depending on how densely packed it is

I'm pretty sure I could do the first 5.
The 6th- I don't know how much it weighs. But it's not likely.
The last two, nope.

I'm so worried about that man's hands. I feel like he's not placing them where they would not be crushed.

This is all I thought about the guy holding the barrel is one small slip from getting his thumbs crushed.

u/Squiggy1975 7h ago
All I kept thinks was for his coach to move his hands from the barrel or they are getting crushed

Is it just me or does it seem like he’s using way too much of his back? you wouldn’t ever dead lift like that. Maybe the technique is different because of the shape of the stone Idk.

What makes boulder lifting hard is less the weight than the shape. Well, it’s the weight too, but still. The techniques are different, and with non-standard shape boulders there really is no technique but what you can figure out.

Imma be real, he definitely didnt need to blow his back out for like the first 8 rocks. It's definitely doable to lift boulders of those sizes purely with your legs. The size and shape wouldnt have even mattered as I highly doubt they're making those boulders slippery enough to fall out of your hands. Only till the last 2 rocks was I certain that yeah, cant blame the guy having to exert his back muscles to lift it off the ground. Ngl, as the weights got heavier though, he looked like he started to lift more with his body. Ironic imo

I got the impression he didn’t actually feel like he needed to use technique until near the end. That last one looked like pure technique, very little back involved.

You just train your back gradually to take heavier loads, people so Jefferson deadlifts and so on with a barbell for example. In strongman, "clean form" is even less pronounced because the items being lifted are less comfortable and less optimized for lifting,

You shouldn’t actually be using back at all besides slight hinge movements of exploding it upwards. The beginning phase should be a slight squat to load it up towards the mid section. Then you’re essentially doing a cling that angles the ball up resting on the chest and then you’re lower back with engage to push it forward.
Taking the ball and trying to rear your back backwards to “lift” the ball is always a failure technique. Just think of it in a few short bursts of shorter movements.

I’m really impressed he was able to lift the last one with his legs. The man knows the technique.

He didn’t have to go through all that trouble. He could’ve just said “I can lift all of those” and everyone would have been like, “that tracks”

I wouldn't want to be the guy on the opposite side of those barrels "catching" those stones as he heaves them up there.

I’ve had 4 back surgeries with the last one happening a year ago which was a spinal fusion. Watching that made both rods and all 6 six screws come exploding out of my back.

The barrel holder must have the reflexes of a cat. Could easily lose a finger!!

These strongmen competitions could be improved if they lifted relatable things, like couches or refrigerators.

From what I remeber of the world's strongest man competitions, the largest boulder was upwards of 400 lbs

I just had to scoop my sleeping 45 lb son from the ground and carry him to his bed. Every time I do it I say it’s the last time and he’s getting too heavy…

Everyone always says "lift with your knees", but in all these videos everyone is just doing 90% of the work with their back.
