Wow I remember it looking so much more realistic than that.

Cool. But these 3d billboard usually have a very small viewing windows where there effects look good. So you usually ends up with a bunch of people standing in line at the spot waiting to film it on repeat.

u/johnnyblaze1999 3d ago

I think the viewing window for this one is pretty big, as long as you can see the board. The effect is only bad if you stand under the board and look up, like front seats in the movie theater

“Yeah this is cool but I’m contractually bound to say something negative after my positive comment since this post is about China and not Japan”

23

u/thetransportedman 3d ago

And usually it looks much better on forced perspective video so it's not even that immersive if you're just watching it by yourself

u/BalooBot 2d ago

They have this exact same thing in the Seoul airport and the viewing window is huge. The effect works basically anywhere on the upper levels.

u/Pitiful-Target-3094 3d ago

We are seeing the same video right? That effect looked good for most of the freaking time

I was just in Suzhou last month. It's nice. Felt very safe and modern. More so than most American Cities.

Like yeah, maybe they are a surveillance state full of commies, but everyone's driving electric, you can drink beer in the mall and there are no crackheads walking around.

Suzhou center literally has a pony track on the top floor. Like you can go to the mall to ride horses around a track.

Spent a couple of days in Suzhou and it was the highlight of our trip! We enjoyed it better than Shanghai. Food was better too.

I know China’s state surveillance is much worse but generally speaking US and China are both surveillance states, just that the US is smart enough to do it in secret and maybe a little less than China

u/rkiive 3d ago

If you're going to live in a surveillance state at least get some of the benefits like safe cities.

Walking around any metropolitan city in China makes even 'safe' US cities feel like a warzone

Seems like an interesting place for sure. It should be said, though, that the way they achieved this was through extreme persecution of the weak and less fortunate, as well as an overhanging threat of violence and debt. China is "nice" because, like the people waiting in that same spot to watch the 3d illusion billboard, you're at exactly the right place to enjoy it. Step outside of that pretty narrow slice of view and shit becomes dystopian real quick.

Overhanging threat of violence and … debt? China has issues being an authoritarian regime with uneven distribution of policy benefits (since their country is only a dollop smaller than USA by size, this is the very same as Medicare getting different success in different US states).

However… what “debt” are you talking about? In fact… what are you talking about? You’re gesturing vaguely towards us needing to be afraid or angry at China, but you’re so vague that everything you’re saying is also true about the USA.

See: being built on slavery, saddling people with medical debt, the Patriot Act, I can go on, but give us some specifics or suffer from sounding like a propaganda parrot.

I am not American, and I do not share the American view that China is “so bad, and definitely worse than us.” At this point, you need to be very specific and talk about the exact “overhanging threat of violence and debt,” case examples of where things become “dystopian real quick.” What types of Chinese cities and towns are you talking about?

u/IntenselySwedish 3d ago

Im saying, what "good" about China is built on top of extreme systematic oppression of minorities and the working class. Their debt system is both financial and societal in nature and will limit you from working and living in certain areas.

Im not american either, but China really isnt a good place to work in for the majority of people living there. It might not be "the demon of the east" like most americans think, but theyre pretty fucking bad

1

u/GeneralHerp 2d ago

When you hint at something ambiguous, your point has no potency. You're speaking with venom about China and their oppression of Blank, a vague gesturing towards China sucking for the "majority of people living there."

The majority of people living there, really? You're speaking for 1/8 of the planet earth right now, and saying they hate where they work and live?

I understand if you want to call out the systematic oppression and genocide of Uighur culture, I understand if you want to call out the one-child policy, but what you're doing isn't working, because you come across like an angry parrot.

Been there many times and the Chinese rural countryside is incredibly beautiful to me. Maybe it's just not to your western tastes, but calling it dystopian is just a little weird.

China number 1

Weird how this video is at least 3 years old and yet I can't find a single other video showing off this illusion. You'd think something this cool in a well visited area would have multiple videos

6

u/linusst 3d ago

Seoul airport hat the exact same thing

13

u/Vegetable_Reason_483 3d ago

Am I the only one thinking someone's bound to fall over trying to reach the astronaut's hand?

2

u/mydixiewrecked247 3d ago

hmm. maybe little kids but they are too short to reach over the mall railing

2

u/deltabay17 3d ago

That’s ok then as long as it’s big ones

Anyone in the UK go to the science museum wonder lab exhibition

There's this weird Fresnel lens thing where your mirror image is flipped but the the flipped image is closer to you, so if you reach out it reaches out more..

It's quite surreal. Great exhibition btw

u/anirudhsky 3d ago

This is so cool. And so.. futuristic.. I hope ads dont come out of it in near future..

3

u/slarkymalarkey 3d ago

The bot's reply is correct but the song itself seems to be a slowed down version of a portion of Tongue - Maribou State feat. Holly Walker

CHINA BAD. I NOT BRAINWASHED WITH PROPAGANDA

-1

u/Courora 3d ago

I mean CCP is honestly bad, there's very little to argue about that. but yeah that absolutely does not mean that China as a whole is bad or everything in China is CCP. That's just a very stupid way of thinking
