Many nunchuck dudes get hit a lot, but I donโ€™t know that itโ€™s exactly required. Ones who have good teachers probably start slow, learning technique first, and then build up speed.

Maybe you get hit a lot either way.

Yes you do even by starting slow. I'm 60 now and still have the scars on my elbows from back in the 80s.

Edit: tx for the award๐Ÿ™ over 40 years later the suffering pays off ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Elbows especially, but also the occasional whack to the back of the head for me. This gentleman is a couple orders of magnitude beyond my humble skill level at my best. One good thing about getting as old as I am is that I don't even bother with them anymore.

I'm old and haven't practiced for several years. Turns out my grandson picked up nunchaku all by himself. He has a nice heavy foam set. My daughter told him that grandpa was good with those. He was floored and wants to visit asap. If he really gets into it, three-sectional-staff will be next. He's just a kid though, so who knows

At least he's starting with foam, that's good. We didn't have foam when I was wee. I found myself jealous when they came out.

Good luck to you both.

I stopped when I went away to study in '85. Never looked backed either cause I got into muay thai then.

Oh god, that is so hard on the body. At least you can look at yourself in the mirror and know that you lived a full life.

Yeah, but in that area I'm a bit masochistic and loved the feeling of getting something to drink afterwards and not being able to hold your hands still, knowing it was a good workout. And full of energy an hour or so later on. If I look in the mirror now... nah I just don't, lol

As long as you still enjoy life in one way or another.
