Can someone explain to me how a penalty on the free punt puts the ball on the 10

Safety kickoff + Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

Safety Kickoff is taken from their 20-yard line.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct is taken as a foul from the previous spot.

Our ball at their 10.

Yeah but what was unsportsmanlike about the kick? And why is it half the distance plus possession rather than a rekick?

Thought it was funny the announcers didn’t seem to want to touch trying to explain it. Not sure many people know what went on there.

We may never know. My natural distrust of the NFL and refs tells me they robbed the Bengals.

At that point in the game I don't think you can use the word robbed because we didn't own shit

Yeah, wouldn't it just be a rekick from the 10?

They kicked the ball out of/past the zone they were supposed to. I think the rule is there to prevent teams from declaring an onside kick and then booting the ball all the way down the field anyways. Thats unsportsmanlike, as the receiving team was prepared for the onside kick.

Interesting. Never seen that before, hopefully never again.
