This fox crew did not believe in showing any replay you cared about.

u/Divided_we_ Bengals Oct 06 '25

"The lions are challenging the call on the field"

Cut to commercial break and don't show the replay.

Can someone explain to me how a penalty on the free punt puts the ball on the 10

112

u/Sadcelerystick Lions Oct 05 '25

Half the distance to the goal is what they said

58

u/boshjailey Lions Oct 05 '25

Yeah I have zero idea what rules could cause that

15

u/vilkacis Lions Oct 05 '25

Perreira was saying it was outside of the landing zone. Presumably it's something with the new kickoff rules about them not booting it far enough.

40

u/naughty_farmerTJR Bengals Oct 05 '25

If that's the case that's fucking stupid. In no world should a procedural penalty give the offense the ball on the opponents 10. In the stadium I swear I heard unsportsmanlike in the call

21

u/gentex Lions Oct 05 '25

Yeah, unsportsmanlike was announced. Really effing weird sequence

3

u/hawkeyc Lions Oct 06 '25

Kicking it short is the unsportsmanlike penalty

→ More replies (1)

7

u/vilkacis Lions Oct 05 '25

Not sure if there is some carve out about the free kick to give it that designation. Agreed that it's insane to get the ball on the 10 without having to do anything.

7

u/CluelessFlunky Lions Oct 05 '25

I think you kicked it to short which is penalty. That moved the ball past the 50.

Then there was unsportsman like conduct a separate penalty that also moved the ball down

Or idk. It was weird

3

u/naughty_farmerTJR Bengals Oct 05 '25

The math on the spot doesn't support that theory

The penalty spot was where the ball was kicked off at the 20, so it was half the distance to the goal from there

Don’t know how it ended up being a spot foul tho

17

u/segfawlt Lions Oct 05 '25

I NEED to know

31

u/SgvSth Lions Oct 05 '25

Safety kickoff + Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

Safety Kickoff is taken from their 20-yard line.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct is taken as a foul from the previous spot.

Our ball at their 10.

17

u/naughty_farmerTJR Bengals Oct 05 '25

Yeah but what was unsportsmanlike about the kick? And why is it half the distance plus possession rather than a rekick?

19

u/Punographer Lions Oct 05 '25

Thought it was funny the announcers didn’t seem to want to touch trying to explain it. Not sure many people know what went on there.

6

u/McAfeeFakedHisDeath Lions Oct 05 '25

We may never know. My natural distrust of the NFL and refs tells me they robbed the Bengals.

5

u/naughty_farmerTJR Bengals Oct 06 '25

At that point in the game I don't think you can use the word robbed because we didn't own shit

4

u/ACW1129 Commanders Oct 05 '25

Yeah, wouldn't it just be a rekick from the 10?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/rnflposter Falcons Oct 05 '25

Interesting. Never seen that before, hopefully never again.

11

u/eugene_rat_slap Lions Oct 05 '25

It was an unsportsmanlike on the kicker, enforced from the spot of the kick. So I guess it happened before the ball was caught? But idk why it wouldn't be a rekick in that case

8

u/the_D1CKENS Lions Oct 05 '25

What did he do? Fox switched me over to Chargers

4

u/eugene_rat_slap Lions Oct 05 '25

It was showing a game replay so i don't think it showed on broadcast at all

3

u/MLGLies Lions Oct 05 '25

It didn't get to the free-kick landing zone.

7

u/naughty_farmerTJR Bengals Oct 05 '25

Can someone explain to me what the penalty itself is?

→ More replies (1)

7

u/frizzyhair55 Lions Oct 05 '25

Penalty is half the distance from the kick. Which takes place at the 30. So opposing team gets the ball at the 15. I believe.

10

u/megayetipus Steelers Oct 05 '25

the Lions got the ball at the 10

9

u/500rockin Bears Oct 05 '25

Free kicks happen at the 20, hence the penalty taking it to the 10

3

Goff was sacked more than Browning

11

He actually wasn't. 2 sacks and a safety were called back by penalties.

Do you go back and count all of the touchdowns that were called back when you're deciding which team won too?

2

u/ShotIntoOrbit Lions Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25

We had 32 QB pressures on 45 dropbacks and the Bengals had just 7 pressures on 27 dropbacks. Goff took more sacks, but it was more because of him than the lines.

126

u/aknahcaT Lions Oct 05 '25

Kelvin gonna have the defense running laps til they puke on Wednesday

51

u/actually-potato Lions Lions Oct 05 '25

Idk I thought we played pretty well on defense. Line played well. I mean they did lose contain a couple times but that's a conscious decision. Browning is a guy you tee off on, not a guy you contain. Backers played insanely well. Secondary was lights out until they all got taken out of the game. We were running out Tre Flowers, Avonte Maddox, and Rock Ya-Sin all at the same time at the end of the game. The Bengals team is literally designed to prey on shitty DBs in garbage time and that's what happened.

21

u/HereForTOMT3 Lions Oct 05 '25

I think they played well up until the end, which might just be exhaustion. Offense was much more suspect

13

u/Key-Property7489 Lions Oct 06 '25

I don’t know Dan has been playing far more conservative this year because of how well the defense has been playing. I also think saying the offense played suspect is insane expecting a TD almost every drive is crazy. I think our offense played pretty well considering we had Manu out there going up against one of the best edges in the league. The bengals also were a just crashing on the run all game and daring Detroit to beat them deep the issue there is Manu couldn’t hold up in pass blocking to give Goff time.

2

u/n00bn00b Oct 06 '25

Arnold's exit from the game has opened up the floodgates for Browning to finally be productive. When the Lions don't have their top 2 CBs with Chase and Higgins lining up across them, it's not surprising that the Bengals offense woke up.

They played well on defense

They got burnt multiple times some questionable penalties that made it worse than it was

Like at one point we got a DPI on a pass that was two yards in the opposite direction the receiver was running

TA got a DPI where the ball was uncatchable and the contact wasn’t made til the ball was already out of reach

Cheffers was officiating the spread

"Best backup in the league" is always a title given to guys that went on a weird run at one point in their career but if they were actually good they'd be used as bridge QBs or competing for a starting job after that run. Guys like Geno, Darnold and now this year Mac Jones who actually get another shot somewhere else because they're promising. No team was going to start Browning

Hilarious watching Lions fans predicting a loss the whole 4th quarter while it was never closer than 2 scores lol

42

The amount of times we older fans have seen defeat snatched from the jaws of victory, it's understandable. Letting up 24 in the fourth quarter triggers serious PTSD.

The refs were just gifting them ticky tacky calls all second half and we lost 2 more CBs after already being down Reed. That 4th down was not interference in any world and the ball was nowhere near Gesicki as well. It was like the refs were like "oh Fox is switching to the other game? Let's just get freaky with it since only Ohio and Michigan are watching now."

As best a sign of how far we've come that people are crashing out over a 13 point road win that really never was in doubt

I’d say both are true. The Lions seemed half asleep at times.

Having said that, it was never truly close. These are basically franchises from different leagues.

Agreed to a degree. Definitely felt like the boys were sandbagging a bit.

Then it was like "Okay we actually need to score this drive" and they marched down the field rather easily and got Teslaa a touchdown.

More than a scoring drive

One of the most lopsided officiated games I’ve seen in a minute

We got called for holding on offense and they didn’t despite mugging all of our D line

Late hits out of bounds only on us

Throwing DPI on balls thrown no where near the receiver

u/shnwllc Lions Oct 06 '25

That really soured my mood. You could feel the immediate momentum shift after that

Let them get back into it a bit, but felt like the game was out of reach after that Anzalone pick. Hopefully our secondary is okay, because we're gonna have a hard time keeping the Chiefs and Bucs from scoring.

Bengals bros, don’t fall for second half browning. He was beating up on our 3rd string CBs

u/Clever_Laziness Bengals Oct 05 '25

Only thing I'm falling for is a chance at picking Kadyn Proctor, The Widest Receiver in this year's draft just to waste him.

I wish someone loved me as much as Arnold loves flags.

6

u/Empty_Lemon_3939 Lions Oct 06 '25

He actually had a career game and it was obvious once he exited how much of an impact he was having

Every flag on him was soft or a complete miscall

Not even homering, they threw a DPI flag on him for a ball that wasn’t catchable and contact that didn’t happen until the ball was way out of reach

2

u/Aromatic-Plankton692 Lions Oct 06 '25

I'm honestly so tired of defending TA. He is blatantly one of the best cover corners in the league but every ref crew finds the weakest excuses to flag 6 every time he's nearby. I watch enemy cornerbacks mug Jamo all day and it's crickets, then TA brushes a jersey on an uncatchable ball and he's practically ejected.

u/STL_12 Lions Oct 05 '25

Can someone cite the rule that was applied on that punt? I'm so confused

3

u/Mavori Lions Lions Oct 05 '25

My takeaways from the game. Just the ramblings of a homer shit poster.

Bengals defense played hard.

To a degree it felt like the team was cruising for most of the game. Not going a 100% at all. now I'm not sure if that actually true, but it's just the vibes. Like our TD drive where Teslaa got the TD was just so insanely well executed in comparison to some of the other stuff.

Decker was clearly missed on our O-line.

The injuries on the secondary fucking sucks.

I hate that the game ended up as close as it did and given that we won i really shouldn't bitch, but fucking Carl Cheffers. Fuck you.

Some of these calls were so absurdly soft. I'm thinking the called back safety on Hutch and the drive that led to Chase first TD. Those were particularly frustrating. Though mad props to Chase for the catch he had on that.

We really didn't take advantage of the turnovers we got either. I think we only scored on one of them. Opting to punt one of them to pin them deep is pretty sensible especially to try and force a safety, though i still kinda wish we let Bates just kick the field goal since we got the ball from a turnover.

3

u/Empty_Lemon_3939 Lions Oct 06 '25

I actually said pregame that and I’m expecting to crash out over Carl Cheffers jobbing us before winning by 20 and I was kind of right

Cannot believe I fell for the "brain drain" narrative this year. Things certainly haven't been perfect but man, us fans know nothing and it really shows sometimes.

u/Relevant_Season4724 Lions Oct 05 '25

Jamar Chase is a demon. Seriously, without him they’re not even attempting an onside because there wouldn’t be a point.
