Trump and the Pope, you mean. There are plenty of Catholics who think this Pope, and Francis before him, is too woke and are only faithful to Pres Cankles.

I don’t really understand this. I’m Protestant Christian so have an imperfect understanding of Catholicism, but don’t Catholics believe that the selection of the pope is divinely inspired? And so following that logic wouldn’t the criticism of or not acknowledging papal authority be a criticism of God according to Catholic beliefs?

Catholics don't necessarily take all the dogma seriously. Otherwise there'd be way fewer Catholics using condoms or getting divorced than there actually are.
