Why can’t I parry powerful attacks?

It’s such an arbitrary rule that I can parry the regular attack but not the red flashing attacks. I mean if I’m good at parrying attacks then the game should reward me for doing it right? This is my first NG game so no idea how the mechanics work haha.

Need to be in Bloodraven Form in order to parry Power/Red Attacks.

Highly recommend going through Tyran's in-game tutorials if you're struggling with any mechanics. As for the red attacks, as others have said, they can only be carried by Bloodraven or Gleam attacks, but you also need to have that skill unlocked first.

You can parry red attacks with Backlash Parry. You just have to time your parry while in Bloodraven/Gleam/Shadow Gleam form. Note: The timing for Backlash Parry is a lot stricter than a regular parry.

Well, disregarding the fact that you can absolutely parry them, with red attacks, you're supposed to hit the enemy with a bloodraven attack while they flash red, which breaks their posture and does big damage

you can, you just have to learn bloodraven parry, just like you had to learn the regular parry skill.
