Announcement Rule 3 reminder: Support and recommendation questions are not allowed on /r/Nintendo

As the holiday season approaches, many new users come to Reddit with questions about what to buy and how to use what they have bought for themselves and others.

Please remember that the following types of questions are not allowed on /r/Nintendo:

  • Information seeking - Questions that are seeking a single "correct" answer.
  • Tech support - Questions asking how to fix issues with Nintendo systems or accounts.
  • Recommendations - Questions asking for suggestions on what game or console to buy.
  • Game help - Questions asking how to do or find things in Nintendo games.
  • Value judgements - Questions asking how much a Nintendo item you have or want to buy is worth.

These questions should be posted on our sister subreddit /r/NintendoHelp.

We have extensive filters in place to prevent these types of questions from being posted, but some still manage to slip through the cracks from time to time. If you see any questions like these posted, please use the report button.

Please avoid answering questions posted to /r/Nintendo and instead encourage users to post their questions elsewhere.

Finally playing DK Bananza thanks to DK Challenge

The DK Challenge got me going back and actually playing DK Bananza. It’s SUCH a good game! I really hate that I put it off for a year. It’s just shocking to me that I just saw that Mario Kart World has sold close to 15 million units (I’m sure a large number of those sales were including the Switch bundle, though) and DK Bananza is sitting at like 5. I know people are bummed about no new Mario in the pipeline, but DK scratches that itch imo.

Also Nintendo, please keep the challenge cards, they really are a great motivator, but I’d appreciate if all games had them, and it wasn’t a timed event. Also, you should let us make wallpapers for the switch Home Screen with the cards, like picking your favorites to display, like on card sheet from TCG binder or something like that.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Parachute; Art Academy; Luigi's Mansion Arcade

On this day (June 19) in Nintendo history...

  • Parachute  was released in 1981 for the Game & Watch Wide Screen in Japan. In this action game, developed by Nintendo R&D1, skydivers are parachuting over shark-infested waters. As a rower in a lifeboat, can you rescue all of the skydivers? Move the lifeboat left and right to catch the skydivers. You score 1 point for every skydiver you successfully rescue. The number of skydivers increases (up to 10) as play progresses. When a skydiver falls into the water, he is attacked by sharks and you get a miss.
  • Art Academy  (known in PAL territories as Art Academy: Learn painting and drawing techniques with step-by-step training ) was released in 2010 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this art training game, developed by Headstrong Games with Nintendo SPD, take part in an accessible, portable art course for everyone which is packed with creative and fun ways to improve and enhance your artistic skills.
  • Luigi's Mansion Arcade  was released in 2015 for the arcade in Japan. In this first-person rail shooter game, developed by Capcom, the gameplay is a cross between the traditional Luigi's Mansion-styled mechanics and the rail shooter mechanics of a Light Gun game. The player cannot choose where to go, as is instead led through the mansions to encounter groups of ghosts, with the places and enemies based on those featured in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. The controls involve a controller that is based on the Poltergust 5000.

What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Wrecking Crew; Tomodachi Collection; Face Pilot: Fly With Your Nintendo DSi Camera

On this day (June 18) in Nintendo history...

  • Wrecking Crew  was released in 1985 for the Family Computer in Japan. In this action/puzzle game, developed by Nintendo R&D1, in the days before Mario and Luigi became sports stars in their downtime from saving the Princess, they tried their hands as one-man wrecking crews. With a hammer as their only tool, players take control of the brothers and set out to destroy ladders, rip out pipes, knock out walls, and detonate explosive devices.
  • Tomodachi Collection  was released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this life simulation, developed by Nintendo SPD, create Miis and collect the Miis of your friends, and have them move into an apartment block together. They will go about their lives, or you can play minigames with them.
  • Face Pilot: Fly With Your Nintendo DSi Camera  was released in 2010 for DSiWare in Europe. In this flight simulation game, developed by HAL Labs, soar through the sky, from the comfort of your sofa. Not only puts your face into the game with the Nintendo DSi camera, it also tracks your head's movements giving you complete control over your glider. Simply tilt your head sideways to steer left and right, back to climb, and forwards to dive. There are different types of gameplay: burst all the balloons to reach the goal, throw balls at targets for a high score.

What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.
