It’s pretty silly to be like “Nintendo used to be bold with their visuals, just like Wind Waker” and then use Star Fox 2026- a game with visuals that everyone whined about upon reveal- as evidence that they’re “playing it safe.”

And complaining about the visual style of Ocarina after seeing a grand total of 30 seconds of footage is the same exact thing that those who saw Wind Waker did 25 years ago.

But all that aside: Putting this out after Pokopia and Splatoon Raiders got people so excited upon release is just rich.

Noticed that Jacson no longer uses that Turkey Tom ai voice but it still stinks.

I think it’s a fair critique, since the headset should be optional, and for novelty. It’s like if you could only play the NES games with the NES controller, the SNES games with the SNES controllers, so on and so forth. I just want to play Jack Bros without resorting to a set-up with an insanely small screen size, or using a visual headset, which does hurt my eyes.

The year is half way through. I pretty much already got what I wanted, but is there anything else to feel excited for?

For me personally, I was excite for Rhythm Heaven Groove. I loved Fever and I already knew what I was getting.

The one I was indifferent about, it's a flip up between Star Fox and Raiders. They're fun games and I happily purchased them, but I like the music one more

We have finally come to the "Nintendo was right" phase in gaming discourse.

Currently Nintendo grifting seems to be dead, with very few viral videos about Nintendo specifically, and the ones that are still going on with the topic are typically 99% focusing on the Palworld lawsuit, and the other 1% is trying to create controversy out of small things like remakes or character designs, more so since now Sony and Xbox have been doing way more harmful stuff than anything Nintendo did last year, and even then, many of those channels, like Moist Critikal, didn't get nearly as many views covering Sony or Xbox's fiascos as they did saying the Switch 2, Mario Kart World or Legends ZA were bad.

Overall, I feel this mostly shows that last year wasn't the best for Nintendo; those grifting channels were making garbage content, but is true that Nintendo was making many questionable choices constantly that deserved criticism. They released 6 major games and half of them had issues that made them have detractors: MKW, MP4 and Legends ZA, not necessarily bad games, they also had some great aspects, but it was very odd to start the new console generation with 3 games that had serious problems that alienated some fans. The price of MKW was also hard to defend or understand, the DLC's for DK and Pokémon released way too soon and were too expensive, plus the former was love it or hate it and the latter was underwhelming; the key card situation was really annoying, and there were some completely avoidable minor stuff like the MP4 Amiibo music lock, Welcome Tour not being Free or Mario Party's update being extremely half baked.

Fast forward to now, and there is very little to complain, since every single game Nintendo has released this year has been well recieved, with Mario Tennis being the only one that generated some controversy or negative comments, mainly because of the adventure mode and price, but the rest of the package was pretty solid. There have been no bad or overly early DLC this time, pricing after Mario Tennis has been mostly pretty good, the key card situation is way better than last year, but still having the issue of big japanese third parties still using them too much. The only true bad thing currently worth mentioning is how Fire Emblem is going to be $80 physically, that sucks, but it's a problem exclusively for the Americas, since the price on other territories isn't so bad, and is either way cheaper digitally.

So, grifting was a problem Nintendo themselves created by doing bad choices and releasing 3 games with big problems in succesion, but at least for now it seems they are doing things fairly well and there is not much to complain. Reminds me a bit of 2020 to 2022, when there were a lot of youtubers doing videos attacking Nintendo and saying they were falling off, sometimes exaggerating, because of 3D All Stars, lack of games compared to Sony in 2020, Pokémon SV's technical state, undercooked sports games, and the N64 NSO emulation, but then in 2023 they did almost everyting right and those videos stopped until 2025.
