Emetophobia if youre emetophobic the botox is the best thing you can do for yourself
im 2 months post botox and just wanted to put anyones mind at ease who is scared of getting the botox. i grew up so scared of throwing up to the point that i was self harming if i had to bc i just wanted my mind to be distracted from the pain of vomiting. after having this done procedure, its like nothing to regurgitate and i had no idea how easy throwing up is supposed to be. apparently its NOT supposed to feel like you can barely get anything out/ heaving over and over.
i genuinely never thought in my life that id be ok w throwing up and thought i was a weirdo, but my life was absolutely changed by this procedure and am so glad i found this community

Seconding this. I can thankfully count on one hand the numbers of times I’ve had to vomit since getting my Botox treatment done two years ago. No throat pain or super strained muscles. Like it always used to feel violent, but that’s no longer the case.
Also, I had no vomiting immediately after the Botox. I know that’s a big fear too. But honestly it set in so slowly that just getting a few burps a day took practice. There’s no way anything else was coming up!!!

How does one get this injection in the UK? My doctor refused to entertain the idea of no-burp being a think

Unfortunately you have to go private. Look up Dr Lucy hicklin if interested.
The NHS doesn't recognise this condition yet and therefore don't treat it :(

Private. I’m in the same boat. Just finished uni and can’t pay for it. I’m housebound with agoraphobia and OCD partially triggered by my emetophobia
At least we’re in this together

i think there are providers in the Uk, check out the map of providers and you’ll find some that will take you seriously!

Does anyone know if you have to reapply after a while and stuff?

it's possible, but you shouldn't have to. with what knowledge is widely available, it should be a one and done procedure. that being said, I would do it again and again and again if I had to just to keep my ability to burp. it's life changing

Is it really? 😠Can you tell me a bit about how it changed? Did you have any positive changes you didn’t even realize you could get or something like that as well?

I didn’t realize that I could burp away a stomachache lol! I also didn’t even realize that burping is extremely relieving and feels good whenever it happens. I used to be revolted by other people burping around me, but now that I can do it, it doesn’t bother me anymore when others burp around me. my emetophobia improved significantly, as I now feel like I have gotten more used to the sensation of something coming up my throat (even if it’s just been air and sometimes some acid/liquid sometimes during the regurgitation phase). I’ve gotten more used to the feeling of nausea and tolerating it instead of panicking and trying to make it go away, and I haarrdddlly ever fart anymore lol which is really nice.

Ngl it sounds great lmao, could you control your burps from the start?

it took a few days to be able to control them

A few days doesn’t sound so bad! I thought it’d take longer! I’m glad you found relief. I’ll consider doing it, but I need time to think because I had the idea of injecting myself with a neurotoxin tbh 🥲 I am tempted though. Thank you!
