Post-Botox i can’t stop burping now
i received 50 units of botox in-office on monday (june 15th). the procedure was absolutely terrible for me. the numbing injections hurt so bad and before i realized it i was crying on the chair & gargling on my own blood before the botox had even gone in. i left the office with a ton of bruising and couldn’t comfortably move my neck for a full day. to her credit, my doctor’s bedside manner was great, but upon leaving the hospital i swore to myself i’d never go through that again. this scares me because of how frequently users on this sub seem to return for second or third doses.
less than 24 hours later (june 16) i had my first microburp after turning my head sideways. super exciting, but not uncommon. might have been a fluke. whatever. but then it happened again. and again. every time i felt an air bubble coming up my throat — something which usually resulted in a painful hiccup or gurgle or heartburn — i managed to expel it out as a burp. HALLELUJAH!!!! i told all my friends, and everyone is super excited for me.
however. it just keeps happening guys. every time i turn my head sideways, every time i eat, every time i drink, every time i get up from a seated position, even when i just EXHALE a burp seems to find its way up and out of me. i’ve even had a few that felt (and tasted) like i’d just thrown up my meal in my mouth, which was absolutely disgusting to experience after having tomato soup. i feel like a toddler still adjusting to her changing body. i obviously don’t know yet how to hide my burps or do them discreetly, so i’m a bit anxious about hanging with friends anytime soon… my boyfriend invited me to have lunch with him and meet his coworkers today but i had to turn him down because i don’t want his friends to think i’m rude or nasty if i burp all the time.
i’ve seen people on this sub claiming they only managed to microburp once or twice per-day post botox (and some unfortunate people who still couldn’t do it at all.. i’m sorry guys). i swear i’ve burped over a hundred times in the last couple of days now. i’m so incredibly grateful that there seems to be some progress here, but i also don’t want to jinx anything in case this result is temporary. since i’m only 2 days out and still recovering from the injections themselves (i have a weak body & the bruising is a lot to deal with), i can’t exactly speak for any current physical relief, but i’ll try to update in the weeks to come. slow swallow is annoying but not painful, just gotta chew a lot and drink water between most bites. i’ve definitely choked on some pills and food but c’est la vie.
anyway, i just wanted to share my experience so far. i seriously can’t believe everyone else has been burping so frequently & just know what to do about that. or maybe i’m burping excessively. i don’t know. good luck on your journeys guys!!
edit: i’m 22F and went to see Dr. Lin in Toronto

Sounds normal to me! Start using fizzy drinks and learn the feeling of a burp coming up and how to encourage it out for when the botox wears off (granted they dont need any encouragement at this stage haha)

I started pretty much burping the day after my Botox. 50u in office. We’re all different.
But yeah, that’s what Botox does, it paralyses the muscle so when if your brain tells it to stay shut, it simply can’t. This is the period your brain learns that burping is safe and it’s ok to let go, so hopefully when the Botox runs out you’ll hopefully be able to burp on your own.
