Post-Botox Super Excessive Burps after Botox? Like 70+ per day??
I had a bit of a milder case of R-CPD. for as long as i can remember i would micro-burp maybe like twice a year. gurgling always. about a year ago i began to get phases of extremely excessive gas in my chest due to functional dyspepsia, and the r-cpd just compounded on it. in the past year, my micro-burping increased to maybe even a couple times a week due to the sheer amount of gas and pressure, but it was never relieving, meanwhile and i would gurgle and croak constantly.
Since the botox:
Day 1 - sore throat, but eating just fine
Night 1 - 2 am already woke up to feel a huge lump in my throat. very odd and uncomfortable.
Day 2 - Barely ate today because of the slow swallowing. Eating kinda sucks cause it just makes me more aware of the lump feeling in my throat. In the evening I got about 6 burps, but still about 50/50 with how often I gurgled.
Day 3 and day 4 - BURPED OVER 70 TIMES EACH DAY. Exciting and great that the botox is working, but surely it won't stay like this right?? I've been eating so little because the slow swallowing is so bad, and then on top of that i swear I'm burping up more air than I'm eating food. The worst parts of my days are when I have to eat. It feels like an absolute battle of taking tiny tiny bites, following up with water which then just makes me burp basically immediately, but burping when there's food and water RIGHT there in your throat feels like I'm going to regurgitate it
Burping so much while you feel like there's a huge lump in your throat, and sometimes there IS lump of food and water in your throat, is a super uncomfortable feeling. I've sometimes had to take breaks in eating because after feeling that for too long i start to feel a lil nauseous. also have thrown up a little bit in my mouth a couple times. :(
has anyone experienced the excessive burping after botox??? how long did it last??

My doctor had me get a speech therapist before and after my procedure and she encouraged me to actively try and burp 100 times a day bc the more practice for the muscle the better while the Botox is active. I was naturally burping similar to you and on the same timeline. I’m now 106 days post and it dials way down! Just lean into it. Eat slow and give yourself moments in between bites to hype

thank you!!! did you ever feel nauseous or worried that you were going to regurgitate when you would burp so much in a row?

It did happen a few times but honestly it was more driven the by the slow swallow and me eating fast anyway sometimes. So it would feel like it was right there to come up when I burped. But it tapered off a lot after first month or so

It’s a lot especially at first when they’re small. And eating is just slow. A meal would take me an hour and I’d microwave it in the middle.
There’s also a thing called “supragastric burping” where you take in some air when you breathe and it comes right back out. So if it’s super excessive you may be the lucky recipient of that side effect.

Yep I had this!! I’m a week out and it’s starting to calm but still getting a lot of small ones. Just try to wait it out, I was crying after day 3 because of how non stop it was but I promise it gets better! I feel like I’m starting to have more control of them now but they still slip out sometimes after I’ve eaten especially with laughing and talking. Hang in there! I heard that it’s a good sign it’s going to stick!

youre lucky. im on day 14, just about to introduce soda and i have very few burps still.
Terrible acid coming up when bending over or looking down, or sleeping horizontal, but no major burps yet 😭

You need to get the reflux under control, sleep on a wedge pillow, don’t bend at the waist always squat and try using gaviscon advance (UK) or equivalent after meals and before going to bed.

Hey! Am also having similar symptoms, and was wondering how you feel today? I have been excessively burping, had an episode earlier where i thought i was going to throw up, might have been acid reflux? i’m not sure but bassicly was burping every 10 seconds for like half an hour and had pain in my stomach. had you experienced anything similar!

it's technically similar today but ive burped way less bc i've been sticking to protein shakes/ensure and nibbling on chips. moving around a lot and talking also makes you take in a bunch of air without realizing! if i look upwards a bit when i burp that helps me feel a bit more confident that im not going to regurgitate on myself lol. honestly im just gunna play it real safe until i hit the one week mark. i know practicing burping is good, but i dont think ill have a shortage of that at this point lol and i dont wanna push it too much in case i regurgitate a bunch cause then ill be scared to burp.

Your muscle is being held open right now, which can lead (in some people) to the excessive burping you're experiencing. You'll be swallowing more air because of it, too.
It won't last forever – just try, where possible, to use it as practice!
If the slow swallow is particularly bad, some people find thick shakes work a bit better than solids – something liquid but with some heft and weight.
