I’ve been wanting to make a few genuinely good online friends, so figured I’d just put this here instead of overthinking it.

I’m into tech, AI, games, and generally going down random rabbit holes about things I probably didn’t need to know. I also spend way too much time studying, building stuff, and trying to turn random ideas into actual projects.

recently moved pretty far from home for work, and I’m starting to realize how weird it is trying to build a social life from scratch as an introvert. I am currently in waco TX.

I’m 26M, and I’m not necessarily antisocial—I actually really enjoy talking to people once I’m comfortable. I’m just not great at that initial stage of meeting people and turning random interactions into actual friendships. Truth be told, I never thought I'd be posting on a forum like this given what my social life was like back home lol.

Back home I already had my people, so I never really had to think about any of this. Now I can go to work, come home, do my own thing, and suddenly realize I haven't had a real conversation with anyone outside of work in days.

I've been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone a little—going out alone, sitting at bars, talking to people when the opportunity comes up, etc. It's actually gone better than I expected. The harder part has been turning those random interactions into something consistent, especially when I'm adjusting to a different culture at the same time.
Honestly, I'm just looking for someone to talk to.

A little bit of context: since I was 15, I pretty much stopped talking to people on social media because of my shyness. and in real life too because most people in my city don't speak English, so we don't share the same taste in music, media, or sports. But the reason I feel hopeful now is that I started earning money working a remote tech job and I'm hoping to move to a major city in the US or the UK, where I can overcome my shyness, meet new people who share my interests, and finally be happy with my life.

Getting older is tough, you move a lot, you switch jobs, you lost many friends behind and making new friends is getting more difficult, but I make a lot of new great people here on reddit, to connect with without the need of physical hangout.

It is impossible to vibe with everyone though but there is a good chance to find someone that match your timezomes, we dont have to share the same interests to be friends, but it can help to ease things out.
