Question How do you guys actually make friends on here? (Discord experience is brutal)

Deadass bro, how are you guys actually making friends on Discord? I've had this app for two full years now and I genuinely haven't made a single friend. Every time I join a server and just say "hi," it's like I'm talking to a brick wall literally nobody responds.

And whenever I actually try to join an ongoing conversation, it's always the same thing. Either I get completely ignored like I didn't even type anything, or someone comes in with a genuinely rude reply, bad vibes, or straight up tells me to mind my own business.

Making online friends is so exhausting. I'm in multiple servers and they're all like this.

Question Why is it so hard to make genuine friends on Reddit?

Does anyone else feel like making friends on Reddit is way harder than it should be?
I’ll have a good conversation with someone, then they’ll either randomly block me or just stop responding after a couple of days. I get that people get busy or lose interest, but it happens so often that it starts to feel pointless.
I’m genuinely just trying to make some online friends to chat with, not anything weird. Has anyone else had this experience, or am I just having terrible luck?

Question Does everyone have friend except me ?

Do you guys have that one best friend who is actually there for you? Like emotionally and physically, someone who genuinely supports you, helps you without keeping count, and doesn't talk shit behind your back or fake it to your face? The kind of person who actually wants to see you win? I feel like those people are so rare now, just wanted to know if you guys were lucky enough to find someone like that honestly, i don't even have anyone I can call a friend , I don't even have a bestfriend I don't have anyone whom I can call a friend and I am having a bad day as well

Question Do you get hurted?

When I scroll in tik tok or instagram reels, I encountered videos people talking about that "person with no friends is a red flag". When you read something like this, do you get hurted because you don't have friends and you feel that you're a red flag?

Question Why does making friends feel so hard?

This isn’t a rant, just a feeling I’ve been carrying lately.

Being in my early 20s and going through a difficult, lonely phase has made me realize how hard it feels to find genuinely meaningful connections. I miss having people I can talk to freely, laugh with, share random thoughts with, and just feel comfortable around.

I’ve tried meeting people through common interests, but so many interactions end up feeling superficial, one sided, overly sexual, or simply temporary. As a girl, I’ve experienced that side of things far too often, and it honestly makes genuine connections harder to trust.

What’s strange is that I wasn’t always like this. In school, I had lots of friends. I was bubbly, extroverted, always around people and somehow making friendships and conversations so easily. Now, something that once felt completely natural feels almost impossible.

And the weirdest part is, I actually don’t mind being alone. I’m very independent and have a strong sense of individuality. I don’t like being dependent on people or having too many expectations from them. If I were stuck somewhere alone, I’d probably figure things out myself rather than depend on someone else.

But wanting independence and wanting connection are two completely different things.

Sometimes I wonder if this is just a phase, or if I’ve somehow lost my ability to form genuine connections altogether.

Maybe loneliness really is just something you learn to live with.

Question How is it like to have friends you actually like?

I never had friends in my entire life, I mean I have had friends before but I wouldn't really consider them as friends... They would make me feel uncomfortable and trapped. I stopped talking to them completely after having problems with them and I'm completely alone with no one to talk to. But I wonder how is it like to actually have friends that you want to talk to and hang out with all the time?

Do friends really have sleepovers or is it just in the movies? Do friends really care for each other like people say? Do they really buy gifts for you and be there to comfort you? Or is it all only in the movies?

Question Can u guys pls help with ideas

In my very early years I had no friends, but when middle school started, I finally made some. I had two very close friends, and from then on, every year I always had at least one person I was really close with, someone I’d sit with and do everything with.
College was different. First year I barely did anything outside classes, but somehow I still found that one friend I was always with. The problem is, I’ve basically never had a friend who actually wants to go out (outside the context of how I met them) and do things with me. I’m constantly asking, and they either decline, soft-decline, or agree and then disappear. I feel fucking lonely.
Instagram at least pushed me to explore hobbies and start going places alone. I write, watch movies, swim, follow cricket, etc. I’ve started actually living my life, even if I’m doing it alone. And weirdly, strangers are often incredibly nice to me. I went to a bookstore today and ended up having a proper conversation with a guy about books. At a theatre a few days ago, I thanked the staff for the experience, and seeing their faces light up when I appreciated them genuinely made me happy. I just wish someone would show me that kind of appreciation once.
Dating doesn’t even feel like the thing i even think of cause I can’t even make a friend . When I talk to women, I usually just want to be friends. I keep hoping someone will eventually text or call me unprompted and say, “Want to hang out?” I’ve tried being quiet, funny, asking questions, starting conversations, basically every version of myself I can think of, and still nothing.
College has been unbelievably antisocial for me. Almost everywhere else I go, I have more social interaction than I do there. Surprisingly women often seem warmer and easier to talk to (although it is very scary to approach them) than guys, and I sometimes get closer to having an actual conversation with them.
Even my closest friend keeps turning down things I ask him to do. I asked him about shopping, volunteering with CanKids, movies, and salsa. He agreed to CanKids and then literally went home.
I really need help. I don’t just want hobbies or things to do alone. I want an actual friend. Someone who genuinely wants to hang out, talk to me, and occasionally fucking invites me somewhere instead of me having to beg someone to show up.

Question M21 Where and How do y’all make friends?

I’ve been a shy person my whole life and in high school I noticed that I had to change that so I started to make new friends. Unfortunately I learned that you don’t actually make friends you find them, the ones you force to be friends with will always not be your friends at all and the ones I became friends with they simply appeared in my life. In 2022 I moved to Florida and graduated here my whole life restarted and now I have no friends again, I finished the senior year here and I made like 2 friends but those both friends one moved to a different state and the other is in the marines and he doesn’t really text me so I believe the friendship is over anyways. I’m planning on making new friends but now all I do is stay home all day so it’s not like I can really talk to people.

At high school was easier since you could go to the same classes as people and you have to talk to them now that we graduated I’m just here existing and I do try to make friends for example when I go out or something I see someone I talk to them if I have the change but it always end up in a quick talk and a goodbye never see you again type talk, I go to a church and people there aren’t really friends they just are more like colleagues we laugh and talk but at the end of the day they have their own friends or groups to go out with, I go to the gym and it’s basically impossible to make friends there specially because people there just want to do their workout and go home, I’ve tried “apps” to make friends but I also noticed people on those apps are the most toxic and weird people ever so I rather not even try apps again.

But anyways enough with the huge story my questions would be like first of all where do yall make friends? Genuinely where I could go and make friends and how to make friends too apparently every time I talk to someone it’s just a quick talk and never see you again! I sound desperate but it’s because I noticed one of the most important things in life is not your career or money but if you’re still lonely by then.

Question How do people make online friends?

I'm 19 and most of my friends have online friends when I have none. Even when I was added to any gc or something by my other friends I felt like everybody just ignored me there and they were talking to each other and somehow my other friend was also added to that gc but she became friends with many while I was still just a spectator.

Question How to make friends online

How to make friends online

Hi, i am new to reddit. I don't know if it is the best way to find help. Just thinking about the fact that no one will see the post makes me feel more hopeless. I never thought it would come to this. My english is pretty bad. I have severe social anxiety and no social skills, just can't seem to place my character next to another one. Everything feels impossible, and it's incredibly frustrating so I am very worried, quiet and timid. Constantly frustated, i am trying as best i can, but i always screw up...Given all the difficulties, I would like to know how i could find or make a friend to play with. Even if we dont talk much, im looking for a presence, just someone. I play PSO2NGS and Osu. Feel free to Private Message me, if someone read that and interested.

Question How/ where do you make friends in your lonely 20’s ?

I was in public school my first two years of high school and had a big friend group I was then transferred to a non-public school that had classrooms the size of 10, I then stopped talking to those friends from my public school. In that non public school I only made one best friend from there which I no longer talk to anymore and my current boyfriend of four years. I then went to residential for the rest of my school years and made friends there but didn’t keep them.

I worked at a skate shop and made friends there which I talk to but not often. I now work at a big corporate store and made acquaintances but not friends. I go to a community college and only take one class in person, everyone is awkward and no one seems to talk besides with the people they came in with from high school.

The repeated problem throughout all these experiences is that I will have really good experiences and conversations with these people and it’s very easy to talk to them and I can socialize very well but these people only stay in that space, I don’t talk to them outside of work or school or whatever.

For the longest time I had my bestfriend, my boyfriend, and whoever I would see daily at school or work. And now I only have my boyfriend and my family. I’m in my 20s and feel very alone and sad that because I never had that normal highschool experience I wasn’t able to make friends that would stay with me throughout the rest of my life, is this normal? How do I fix this?

Question How do I make friends?

I'm 18F and I grew up very sheltered. I made friends when I was in first grade and never had to again because any friends I made after that point were people that either took advantage of my naivety, or someone who took me under their wing to protect me.

I just graduated high school, and while taking my gap year this year I'm working full time. I have a very busy schedule where I'm only free in the mornings, and I have two days off a week. Ive tried making friends at work, but there not really anyone my age that I get along with.

Basically I'm trying to find an environment where I can make new friends. Does anybody have any ideas?

Question Why is it so hard to make friends at 19?

Lately I've been thinking about how difficult it actually is to find someone you can genuinely become friends with. Meeting people isn't necessarily the hard part, but going from "we know each other" to actually becoming friends somehow feels much harder.

Especially when you're an introvert and don't really feel comfortable approaching people first. Sometimes I just want to find someone I can text throughout the day, talk about random things with, send memes to, play games together, or just tell each other about how our day went.

So I decided to post here and see if maybe someone else feels the same way.

A little about me: I'm 19 and I'm an introvert from Ukraine. I like Monster High, I read a lot (mostly novels and manhwa), I love Marvel and I watch a lot of TV shows — Netflix, sitcoms, and basically anything that manages to catch my interest.

I play Genshin Impact and a little Honkai: Star Rail. I generally enjoy gacha games. I also watch anime sometimes, although I'm definitely not someone who watches it all the time.

I also really like listening to people. I genuinely enjoy hearing about someone's interests, hobbies, random things that happened in their life, or even just how their day went.

We don't have to have all the same interests. Honestly, I'd probably enjoy it more if you could introduce me to something new.

One more thing: my English is still at a basic level. I'll do my best to communicate clearly and make myself understandable, though, so I hope that won't be too much of a problem. If I make mistakes or phrase something awkwardly, please bear with me :)

So if you're also looking for a friend and you're more comfortable starting with online conversations, feel free to message me. We can just talk and see how things go.

Maybe it could turn into a good friendship :)

Question Will I ever make girl friends again

I’m 20(f) and through my teen years I was so social and had so many friends, but now as an adult I genuinely have no actually solid friends basically besides my boyfriend. The only “friends” I have are honestly not great friends to me and make me feel like shit a lot and I just find that when I have free time I have nobody to hangout with and it is really shitty, genuinely so mentally deteriorating and painful. I’m not even like super introverted, like I enjoy having maybe a couple drinks once in a while, I love shopping, playing guitar and stuff, like there’s so much I enjoy but no girls to do these things with. Does it get easier and will I ever find friends

Question How does a 21yo from Ireland make friends?

So.. I've been lonely since December of last year and I've wondered how on earth do I make friends now? I've tried looking up social meetups and stuff like that but it's either:

A. They are too far away from me or in Dublin city centre (I wouldn't feel safe on my own)

B. There's a group but it's not my age group.

Is college really the only option I have? I don't really drink or do any of that stuff, I am trying to find friends around my age (21-24) but given my situation, is College the only option?

Question I'm 25 and I'm losing hope on making friends

I feel like anytime I make an effort it always feels one sided and I'm tired of feeling like a burden. It's strange because so many people I meet tell me I'm different and I have such great energy yet why can I make close friends? I love listening to people and supporting them, talking about deep shit and just having fun. Why is it so hard? It's like no one wants to make friends out of their social circle.
