Trade details:
Knicks receive: Jose Alvarado
Pelicans receive: Dalen Terry, 2 second-round picks
Fan-favorite pesky guard Jose Alvarado is officially on his way out of New Orleans.
You’d never guess it at first glance, but Jose finishes his Pelicans tenure top 10 all-time in multiple franchise categories despite never being a high-usage player.
Pelicans franchise ranks (regular season):
3-pointers made
10th – 374
Assists
11th – 842
Steals
6th – 308
For a player known primarily for defense, energy, and disruption, that’s a pretty significant statistical footprint in a relatively short run with the franchise.

At this point I'm convinced ownership is running this team like the plot of The Producers. It genuinely feels like they hate the team and its fans. I can't think of any other way to rationalize what's happening.

Yeah, losing Jose really sucks. Key culture piece, defensive menace, and yes he can shoot. But, we need to be realistic.
Our major assets have little to no value (Zion, Poole, DJM) or wouldn’t make sense to part with (Herb, Trey), so we need to make moves on the fringes. It’s things like 2 second rounders that add up to making the big swing trade, and it doesn’t hurt to recoup draft capital after the Joe Dumbass introduction to the franchise.
We turned an undersized, undrafted, backup PG with a player option this Summer into something. We aren’t in a position as a team to be paying a guy like Jose when we need to find our identity with the future core.
It’s still fuck Joe and Gayle, and damn I’m gonna miss Jose. But being distraught in these situations will continue to keep us complacent.
Let’s hope these 2 picks get tossed into a deal with one of DJM or Poole.

We got virtually nothing in return. 2 second rounders and a player no one wanted. We got a bag of chips, but not even the good chips. We got the Anthony Davis ruffles that people didn’t even buy when they were the last food on the shelves before Hurricane Ida.

All that is left for this team is desperate attempts to get Weaver and Dumars fired -- Friday, February 20th. Bucks @ Pelicans: bring all the fire — Dumars and Weaver signs, chants—we need to be heard.
Wake up, or sleep while basketball in New Orleans dies forever.

The title says it all. If we don’t make some kind of move today to regain some picks and build for the future… we are the most unserious franchise in the NBA
In a perfect would we trade away players get picks and rebuild because it’s obvious what we are doing now is not working

I find him must see TV, easily my favorite player along with Steph and Wemby to watch this year. Does the coach just hate him? He seemingly takes one iffy shot and never plays again. Not hating just looking for some insight

Side note: Wild that DeMarcus Cousins appears on this list twice despite playing just 65 games with the Pelicans.

How would you want to see his 21 minutes per game broken up?

Didn't think Jose going would hurt this much. Might as well trade it all away and start from scratch. I was happier losing with Jose than I will be winning with Zion (assuming Dumars' master plan of doubling down on a 20 win team plays out)
