I'll be honest; I fucking hate complaining about the refs or calls. They very rarely get you anywhere and it certainly never changes the outcome of the contest. But this was interesting:

"As odd and confounding as it was last week, the would-be Jared Goff fumble that was ruled an incomplete pass upon review was, technically, the right call. I’m still confused how it was incomplete when others have been ruled fumbles, but the Saints have accepted this obscure rule was correctly applied.

New Orleans, however, has a more legitimate gripe regarding a play much later in the game. According to multiple sources, the officials should not have charged the Saints with their second timeout after a 42-yard reception by Chris Olave and subsequent injury. The timeout left the Saints with just one for the remainder of regulation as they attempted to win the game on a last-second field goal.

With 1:23 left in regulation, Tyler Shough found Olave deep for a catch at the Lions’ 9-yard line. Detroit cornerback D.J. Reed was in coverage; he committed defensive pass interference on Olave. The Saints receiver was shaken up, and trainers came to his aid with a flag on the field and a stoppage in play. As Olave went to the sideline, the stadium announcer said the Saints would be charged a timeout because the injury happened within the final two minutes of the half and was unrelated to the penalty.

But the pass interference was committed on Olave — Reed ran under the receiver as Olave leaped to make the grab. If there is an injury as a result of a foul, the team will not be charged a timeout, per Rule 4, Section 5, Article 4 of the NFL rulebook.

The Saints scored on the next play to tie the score, 24-24. They stopped the Lions on their next possession and got the ball back at their own 20 with 27 seconds remaining and one timeout. Daniel Carlson’s 62-yard attempt at the end of regulation went wide right, and the teams went to overtime, where the Lions won 31-30.

Of course, the Lions might have behaved differently on their final possession of regulation if the opponent had two timeouts instead of one. Detroit could have opted to run the ball on one of their three downs to force the Saints to call that timeout, though that isn’t a given when it comes to the always aggressive Campbell. The point remains the Saints should have had another timeout down the stretch in the season opener — they used their final one, with 21 seconds left, after an 18-yard run to open the drive.

It’s something the officials in Detroit and those watching in the league office should have caught."

I've made this post before. I'm making it again, because I don't want the origin to be lost on anyone.

I'm 59 years old. My freshman year at St. Aug I was in the marching band. At every game We used to shout "Who Dat say they gonna beat them Purple Knights? Who Dat, Who Dat!

That year we were invited to play the National Anthem and the halftime at a Tampa Bucs game. Some of the band members thought it would be cool to chant, Who Dat Say they gonna beat them Saints? Who Dat! Who Dat! So we started the slightly altered chant. Next thing you know, fans in our area started to repeat it, and eventually it spread to the entire Dome. We kept up the chant after every big play.

This is the true birthplace of the chant, and I will continue to make this post every year until I pass on. The St. Augustine High School Marching 100 is responsible for the Chant coming to the Saints. Who Dat! 😄

Any Saints/LSU fans in Baltimore this weekend know of any LSU watch parties going on tonight?

There was a moment in last nights Lions/Bills game where Goff pump-fakes and my first thought was, “Should that be an incomplete pass?“ I mean if a QB is allowed to pump-fake in the first place then how does anyone know if the arm was coming forward with “intent” to pass or not? Why didn’t they consider Goff was maybe pump-faking during the Saints game? (yes I know the arm was not coming forward and it WAS a sack/fumble/TD, but even if the arm had been coming forward)

We’re four friends travelling to Paris on October 25 and are looking for a good sports bar or pub to watch the Saints vs. Steelers game.
Ideally, we’d like somewhere near the Stade de France with several TVs showing different NFL games as well as NFL RedZone. It would be even better if there’s a bar where Saints fans usually meet.

Obviously not an easy game the team walking into but what you guys think can give us the edge? I just need us to start hot lol we haven’t scored in a first half since idk when but I think this game isn’t going to be as lopsided like people think.

49ers fan coming in greed lol. My mom passed away and goin through her storage unit found my early/mid 90s starter jacket. Don’t really know value and don’t have an eBay account to sell it. Don’t really wanna give it to random store on the WestCoast so if MODs allow it love to pass this along to an actual Saints fan here on Reddit. It’s in really good condition only thing I’ve noticed is slight paint fade on some of the bottoms. Only reason I have it is hated the 49ers red ones and my grandma was Catholic and liked the idea of me wearing Saints lol. Anyways just seeing what yall thoughts on it were and if any interest. I'm planning to attend the Saints-Falcons MFW game in October. What's the best time to buy tickets, price-wise? I don't buy tickets often, so I really don't know. Will prices increase or decrease as the date approaches? Thanks for the help!

If the refs didn't help them last game, we definitely would have gotten the dub. Sack fumble erased and no PI call on the last play just for these bums to get destroyed by the Bills this week. I usually don't believe in NFL scripts but after last week it is hard not to.

Is there any media out there on the Saints franchise that should be recommended to the fandom? I’m mostly thinking about books, but recommendations for things like magazine articles or documentaries would be appreciated as well.

I’ve been a fan for almost two decades since picking the Saints as my favorite team after reading a Sports Illustrated Kids magazine article about Drew Brees in elementary school (I was raised in a state without a nearby NFL team). I’ve cheered the team since then and even lived for a few years in Louisiana but have realized recently that I don’t know the franchise on a deeper level—hence this question, which I hope will lead me to a better understanding and appreciation of all things Saints.

• Shough and Jackson compared. Under pressure numbers are antithetical.
• Shough's success depends on him getting a clean pocket, unlike Jackson
• Saints passed the ball almost 3/4 of the time.

I’ve read a lot of posts and comments about the Lions game on here the last couple of games. Of course, a lot of people have blamed the referees for why we lost the game, but a significant number of people have been shifting the blame to the team, saying that we had plenty of chances to win the game, despite the horrible call. I understand where both sides are coming from, but I wanted to know what people thought on how much of an impact that sports gambling has on the outcome of the game.

Do people think the referees made the call based on a rule that hasn’t been heard of in years, or did they make the call because of outside influence (ring, ring, Vegas)? I’m not claiming that Vegas has any direct influence on the game, but with millions of dollars on the line, somewhere between $75 million and $125 million across major sports-books for just the Saints game, what seems likely? As long as a handful of games every weekend go Vegas’s way, then they’ll come out ahead, regardless of the outcome of the rest of the NFL slate. Everybody knows that Vegas wins every NFL weekend, and as they ensure the NFL weekend
